blade welding repair question UPDATE

some of you may have seen my thread on the xx case that the spring apears to be sunken in on the main blade,ive been told basicly the back of the blade is probly wore down, one possable repair is to weld and build up, mabe other possable repairs iam not aware of, any way, ive herd a couple differant views on the welding now, some say works fine, others say its only a very temperary fix, and after a few opening and closings, it wouldnt last and would ware away ? so iam kinda not sure what to try with it, basicly if iam, gonna repair it, i want it to last, case wont help any on it, they only offer backspring replacement, which is most likely not the problem, iam not at all familer with steel harding or anything, so not sure if the weld buildup would actualy work or not, so i know a bunch of you guys are realy in the know here, and would love to hear your thoughts on this, thank you, james..........

Unless you have a corrosion problem going on the blade you should need to replace the spring. Hardness on a typical blade will be 56-59 rockwell c scale and a spring should be mid 40's. The spring should wear at a faster rate than the blade's runup/backstop due to being softer.

Are you certain you don't have a pin that is broken? I've seen broken pins do some weird things to pocket knives.

I sure wouldn't recommend welding on the blade as a fix at all.

not sure on the pin, dont know if this would matter but, the sheeps foot blade shares the same end as the main blade, it works as good as a new one, could the pin be bad, and the other blade that shares the same end, and bolster still function good ??

well i sent it off to case this eve, i hope that is the problem, guess wel see and go from there.

case wouldnt help me with it, i sent the knife to TANK here on the forum in texas, the blade needed welding up some on the round part of the joint, and the spring was wore too, now it snaps better than most new 18 pattern cases, he does exellent work, i diffantly recomend him if you have a knife that is wore like that in the joint and spring area.

i may have been wrong on the forum handle here, it was T bar K custom knifes in texas, not sure what he goes by here, anyway, good work,
