I know nothing about Russian knives and I'm betting that the seller doesn't either.
The liners look to be double so I believe it will break down. If the seller knew that I suspect he would he put in a photo of same.

I suspect it was made for export. That English on the blade makes me think that way.

I agree Wullie. From what I can find about STIZ, they were around from 1950-1990. So I'm guessin this one was made in the late 1980s, as Russia began their journey to embrace capitalism.

I was thinking the same thing, I think 91 was the breakup of the USSR, so early 90's maybe.

The seller had the knife completely wrong...as we all knew. It is no way a military knife.

Wonder how many where imported, since you have never seen one Blue, I bet it's not that many?

Got this one in today, and the answer is YES, it does disassemble. This is a large knife, 4 5/8" closed length.
The quality is what one would expect from Russia in the 1980s-1990s.
Famous Russian military quote: "Quantity has a quality of its own".
So this piece was built like most Russian stuff back then, stamped steel. Designed to be built quickly, cheaply, on a really large volume scale.

I don't think the seller even noticed it had a punch blade.

I think the best part of it is the main blade and etch! (And the dark red handles.)

Wonder if there alot of them out there? Maybe they were exported somewhere else and this one made it's way here.

The seller is in Alaska, and has more...
I like to imagine it came across the Bering Strait during the winter, on a dog sled. Along with 12 cases of caviar and Stolichnaya vodka, and 6 cases of AK-47s.... but that's just me...

Very nice knife and a good buy on it. I think the hobo tools are interestong and handy. I have a colonial and a no name rostoferi.
