Supply of Case Stag Big Folders Drying Up?

Post by Wilder »

Like many here, I check eBay for good knives on a daily basis.
I especially look for Case stag Classics.
It seems to me that I'm not seeing nearly as many stag hunters, sunfish, jumbo trappers, jumbo saddlehorns, whittlers, and clasp knives as I saw last year.
I suspect that the depths of the recession prompted some to sell last year and because I didn't start collecting until 2/2009, I'm not too sure how plentiful these knives were before that time.
Are Classics in more demand?
Is stag in more demand?
Are big knives in more demand?
Are more people collecting, thereby generating more demand and less supply?
Is it simply a "case" of the fact that there were only so many of these knives made and once a single knife disappears into a collection, that's one more out of circulation and therefore one less available for sale?
Maybe just that the recession seems to be ending and money is more available and/or people are more inclined to spend/invest?
That said/asked, I can't see that the winning bids are that much greater than they were when there were more knives on the ebay auction block.
Maybe I've got it wrong.
Maybe I'm missing something

I find this all very interesting and somewhat confusing.
Any opinions or discussion would be very welcome.

Thanks,
Wilder

hello Wilder,

As a collector of Case Classics I understand what you are discussing .... I've collected quite a few stags over the years and see fewer and fewer of the large Case Classics being sold, ebay or anywhere else. As a returning college student after a 35 year absence I've had to sell a few of mine to pay for tuition, books, etc.

I find it interesting that you'd return to school and already you're the dean.
you must have made a very large contribution! ::ds::

Cute, and a good play on words .... I wish I was the Dean ..... sometimes I get confused with the new "PC" of today's society, or maybe I'm just old and weathered?

I was in sales and my main market was new homes ..... down the toilet as we all know, so back to school and 2 more years to go .... been a long journey so far but I've been able to maintain a 3.75 GPA ... so far.

You've probably seen the movie titled "Back to School" that starred Rodney Dangerfield.
The dean of that particular college was "Dean Martin."
If you haven't seen the movie, you should rent it as I'm sure you'd find it entertaining, considering your new status.

Will do ... I remember the movie and got quite a few laughs out of it. Didn't realize Dean Martin was in the movie ... I'll have to rent it again.

Dean, returning to college after a 35 year absence....very impressive!
I finished grad school 35 years ago this month. I cannot imagine going back to class at this point in my life.
Good luck and keep that GPA strong. ::tu::

Thanks Paul,

I appreciate the kind words ..... right now on summer break and getting ready to hit the books again shortly..... wish my comprehension was as good as it was 35 years ago ... I find myself having to read things 2 or 3 times to make sense of it all.
