Toothpick???

What was a toothpick knife made for?
Was it to fillet fish?

I've often wondered that myself. With that pointy handle, it looks to me like it was designed to wear a hole in your pocket.

dont thik they serve any real purpose that I can think of. The large tp's might have been used for the fish thing but the tiny tp's are pretty much worthless except to those who collect them.They dont take uo as much room LOL!!!

As I understand it they were originally called,"ticklers" or,"Saturday night specials" and were primarily used for fighting after imbibing in what was then illegal alcohol.Straight razors were also popular..I doubt that was the original intent of the makers;likely they were made as a folding filet knife.

Maybe they are used as tooth picks or to whittler a toothpick.

I have always though the big one too big and the small one too small

But that 4" one from Great Eastern has really caught my eye

(the big one always reminds me of a laguiole - what with that big long clip point - and given they are from down South, maybe there is something in them being an eating knife mainly - though some I have seen look more like sharpened nails, and very likely for poking holes in)
