KA-BAR

Post by Owd Wullie »

I've had this beast for a while. A good friend gave it to me because he said he had no use for it. I don't have much use for it either. LOL
Kind of a cross between a hatchet and a knife. It is stout.

8) Willie, Very Cool! ::tu:: Your knife is a Discontinued KA-BAR, called "THE WARTHOG" I have one and it's built like a tank! ::tu::

KA-BAR model #1247 Warthog Survival knife offers a oval shaped non-slip Kraton G thermoplastic elastomer handle for excellent control during use.

The epoxy powder coated, high carbon steel (1095) blade has a [HRC 56-58] hardness rating.

The full 5 3/8" razor sharp blade is hollow ground sharpened to 20 / 20 degrees with buff polished edges.

Powdered metal butt cap, carbon steel guards, are both powder coated.

Made in Olean, New York, U.S.A. and proudly bears the KA-BAR brand.

Production of this model ended in 2008

Hey Mitch,

Thanks for the info. My buddy, Jim, gave that knife to me back '05 if I recall correctly. Jim is retired Army Special Forces Colonel and has been retired since '76 I think. He still gets "toys" sent to him every now and then and this was one of those toys. I was messing with it at his place one afternoon and it showed up in my truck about a month later. I asked him about it and he laughed and said I needed to clean out my truck more often because he dropped it behind the seat the day I was fooling with it.

He's a trip and I'd ride though HELL on Sunday with him or for him. We're both married now and getting to old to enjoy the crazy stuff we did together 10 years ago, but we had more than a few wild times. we still get together every month or two and have a couple of drinks. 10 years ago, a couple of drinks was what we had while we were deciding where to get drunk. ::dang::

Ahh, the good old days. LMAO His wife has picture of Jim and I that was taken at some unknown or unremembered bar to either of us to this day. How she got it is still a mystery to us.. Needless to say, we were in the process of raising Hell and puttin a prop under it. My wife had to study the picture to figure out just who those two drunken idiots in the picture were.

You are correct about it being built like a tank. It usually stays in my "bug out" bag. ;) It'll come in handy when times get tough.

Well I do not have a friend like you guys do.

I do have some Ka Bar fixed blades.

This is one Ka Bar VIETNAM WAR knife that makes me fell (well ??)
Perhaps I will just say different than most knives.

Speaking of Ka-Bars, here is the one I most treasure. Have never seen a photo of one of these on the Internet before.

USMC 200th Birthday Commemorative. Only 2500 issued in 1976 and were all sold in just weeks.

Arghhh. Envy and the sin of lust. If I were ever to meet you and we get around that one, don't turn your back for even an instant.

I've dropped hints and sometimes even been more direct about that one for several years, yet birthdays and Christmases come and go but no VN K-Bar. Sigh.
