Knife Pricing Comparisons...surprises in both kingdoms

Post by roger007 »

OK, I was bored, so I pulled up a couple of screens & started comparing prices on some knives. Sorry for all the links, but I thought it'd be better than a spreadsheet...#1) Taylor Schrade 834UH EBAY: http://desc.shop.ebay.com/Knives-Swords ... 86.c0.m282
WALLIE:http://www.walmart.com/ip/Taylor-Ranche ... e/12551329 EBAY 1 WALLIE 0
#2) SOG TRIDENT TANTO TF-7 TiNi EBAY: http://desc.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=S ... 313&_rdc=1 WALLIE:http://www.walmart.com/ip/SOG-Trident-T ... e/10996303 EBAY 1, WALLIE 1 ($60 Rollback)
#3)Spyderco Centofante3 C66PBK3 EBAY http://desc.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=S ... 313&_rdc=1 WALLIE http://www.walmart.com/ip/Spyderco-Cent ... fe/9856652 EBAY 2 WALLIE 1
#4) Kershaw Leek, black 1660CKT EBAY http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=Kersha ... m270.l1313
WALLIE
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Kershaw-Leek- ... k/11047937 EBAY 2 WALLIE 2 (TY Rollback)

OK, I'll quit while it's tied. There were eight knives that I didn't list that were within a buck'r 2 of eachother, so I skipped them. EBAY sellers came thru pretty good against the mega-giant. The big banana award goes to the sky-high price of the Taylor Schrade 834UH @ Wallie (double most BIN sellers on EBay), but you gotta give the fried green mater award to....the WWW, the wild world of wallie, for the big Rollback from $110 to $50 on the SOG Trident Tanto TiNi TF-7. Not sure how many sold at $110, but the rollback to $50 was huge, as current BINs on the Bay are from $69-$85.
Well, I've had too much fun bringing you up to date price comparisons-info you really might not want, and definately didn't ask for. :P

Very interesting comparison, Roger. Speaking of knife pricing in general, is anyone starting to see a decline in prices for European made knives? It seems to me that some of the prices on the World Knives site are down a bit, and I am expecting major price drops as the Euro continues to go down. It's already down 20% against the Dollar and that should flow through to retail pricing.

On the same path I recently did sort of some of that price comparing on my own.
I see there are 2 stores on our own site that are selling the exact same brand new in the box Schatt & Morgan jack. One is selling for $74.00 the other $100.00
both stores are the aprox the same size and it is America so you are free to do what you want, but it does pay to shop around.

I've always heard to get THREE estimates before making a decision ::hmm::.
Never really thought of Wally World as being a knife supplier ::shrug:: guess I'll have to go shopping with the old lady ::nod:: Thanks Roger!
