Custom LB7

This was a 6 dollar ebay knife that had a broke spring and a cracked scale.
I completely tore the knife down, cleaned the inside and sanded to 1500 grit. Then reassembled with all new pins and spring.
Then wet sanded the brass and scales to 1500.
The scales are a black synthetic buffalo horn which are epoxied on with only the rocker pin. I think it looks nicer with the just the one pin.

That looks nice and clean. A while back (like a year or more?) MM posted photos of his LB7's that had the bolsters thinned and reprofiled. The result is a very lean knife. One my dislikes of the LB7 (and I carried one for years) was the heft.....I have often thought about trying to make a nice light-weight version, just have not done it yet.

There - now you have a new retrofit to try.

That's the thing I like about the LB7 is it's heft What would be cool is a LB7 with titanium bolsters/scales, that way it would have the same feel but without the weight.

I should say though that it's not all skill, it's having the right tools for the job. Having the right tools makes any job that much easier. it is pretty tricky getting the scales fitted though, especially ones that don't have both sides flat for cutting on a miter saw like stag.

Nice clean lines.

The popularity of horn seems to have dropped off some in recent years,
but when it is done right horn really makes a knife pop, IMHO.
