Spyderco Drogonfly

Won one of these on Ebay last night...I have only had a few Spyders before but really liked the looks of this one .
Will let ya know how I like it once I receive it.

Spydie's are cool knives. I've only got one but it is the most solidly built, tightest locking up knife I've ever seen.

Not exactly sure since they don't put model numbers on the knives, but I think it may be the Executive

Yeah..it looks like the Executive...very nice.

Thank you. .....I actually like the serrated edge..I would have preferred partially serrated better though.

I'm kind of old fashioned regarding serrated edges... I believe Spyderco is selling most of their knives with a serrated or partially serrated edge, and many of their designs sort of look best with the serrations.
No, so far I have no American made Spyderco, but I have been watching them for years. They seem a bit pricey...
Out of curiosity I purchased a model from the imported economy line (Byrd) a few months ago. Seems well made and I intend to use it, but so far it's still in the box. If I like it a lot, I will probably get a "real" Spyderco. It will probably have a plain edge though...

Are Spyderco's made in US now? Mine was made in Seki, Japan, got it about 1995.

But I thought many of the models were US made...
I know some models are/have been made in Japan and some in Taiwan...

Knives of several brands today are made in different countries and it is often hard to know the country of origin before you get the knife...

All the ones that I have seen are made in Japan or Taiwan.....I'm not for sure about earlier ones.

I bought my girlfriend a Spyderco Dragonfly, it is a very nice knife and she carries it quite a bit. I have two Spydercos made in Golden Colorada, a Manix and a Paramilitary, the rest of mine are made in Seki City, Japan.

Spydies made on Golden, CO that I can remember off the top of my head are the Kevin Wilkins colab Leafstorm:


all of the Military series (including the paramilitary if I remember correctly):


the FRN handled native's:


the original runs of DK and UK pen knives, some of the custom colabs like the chinook, swick, Pkal... the Manix 2 I think....um...Oh, most of the US Steel Mule team knives like CPMM4/S30V, etc.

Here are photos of my two made in USA Spydercos. In the first two pics the top one is a Manix and the bottom is the Paramilitary. Both are CPM S30V steel. The Manix is 5 and 1/4" closed and the Paramilitary is 4 and 3/4" closed. The bottom photos are both sides of the tang of the Manix. The tang stamps are etched on these knives, not stamped.

Some of you may know..I have a small collection of autos...I was searching the web to buy my Monthly auto when "low and behold" I found the perfect one !!
Check this bad boy out!!......made in Golden Colorado.
This was also the best price that I could find...the 83mm is $10 less and would probably be more suitable by most to carry.

Thanks.....but I jumped the gun a bit.I found another one I liked better..Spyderco "EMBASSY" auto...its really nice and only a few bucks more.
It will be next on the list.

I did not know that either! I have seen a bunch of them, my father would get one for my Nephew every Christmas, and he had a few of his own around his house too.

One thing about Spyderco's Japan made or not they have developed their own nitch! I bet they will be collected 100 years from now.
