All those knives look great! I am a big fan of the Bulldog knives, especially the stag ones. I am looking for a good reference book for Bulldogs. I have Parker's Pocket knife traders guide but it does not have a lot of detail about the knives. What do you guys use? In my picture are some of my current favorite stag Bulldogs. It seems I put some knives away for a while and when I get them back out, I remember how much I like them. Thanks for starting this thread.

Hi Elwood! Those are some very nice stag Bulldogs you have. The new (volume 10) Pocket Knife Traders Guide does not mention Bulldogs at all, but the older ones are pretty good. I was able to obtain a copy of the volume 3 guide published in 1997 from Amazon.com. Volume 3 has color photos of 1st & 2nd generation knives together and points out some differences between them. Even so, I am still guessing much of the time. As far as I know, the Parker's books are the best you will find for older Bulldogs made thru 1995. If anyone knows of some other Bulldog books I would also be interested in them.

Parkers Volume 8 has a good value reference for Bulldogs.

If you compare pictures that are in vol. 3 with those in vol. 7 and vol. 8 carefully you will see some rather surprising results.

Would anyone be willing to be a little less cryptic for the slower ones of us?

There is a definite deference between what some refer to as true 1st generation knives and second run 1st generation knives.

Compare the two 1985 knives below. The top one is a 1st generation knife. The pulls have more serrations, the shield is pointed, the stag is finished quite differently.

Was there a change up in tooling half way through the run? Why are they so different?

Many would argue the point and it’s never been proved when the knives were actually made……………..thus the mystery.
