6" JPK

Post by coffeecup »

Well, after about 30 years of looking, I finally have a 6" JPK. There's minor problem or two: some yayhoo pounded on the sawteeth and peened them down, and the knife is about 60% light rust (or "future patina" as it is sometimes known).

Then there's the major problem: the hex pommel and some leather washers are missing. Given that the knife is pretty-well gone from a collector perspective, there's no real loss if I customize the piece. I'm not sure if the tang was broken or if the pommel was somehow pried off. Maybe someone removed it to replace the handle and never got around too it?

Anyhow, it looks like the best way to determine the amount of missing tang is to go with the overall length of the knife. How long should a 6" Camillus Jet Pilot's Knife be?

Thanks,
Jim
Quality should not be an accident. So what is the explanation for some of the knives we've seen in the past few years? (from A Knifebuyer's Manifesto)
