Case Classic Clasp Knife - can anyone tell me....

Post by knifeaholic »

I have only this photo to go by, there is no box or certificate of authenticity....can anyone tell which handle color/jigging this might be and the year/quantity made for this handle and shield?

By process of elimination, I am going to say that your knife was made in 1990 and has the circle C tang stamp. If so, it is, most likely, #111-B, in the Classic book. It is listed as green bone and is from a run of 1,000. ::nod::

Sorry, I'm not much good with the different jigging patterns. Roger will probably know. HEY, ROGER!!!

knifeaholic,

Bill hit the year date & run amount correctly, the handle is Bright Green Rogers Bone & may have pin feather jigging

Knifeaholic, Your image is very poor, but here are my thoughts. It is my understanding that all Case Classics are marked with the year of manufacture. If this is not present on you knife, then it is very possible you have pictured an authentic old greenbone(probably early tested era).
If this is the situation, then it has been beatifully preserved.

Here's the scoop from kf.com; Steve saw this and bid on it on speculation. Concerned it might be a Classic, but we pointed out (after he had won the bid) that all known Classics had two cover pins on each end instead of the one centered as shown. Once it come in he was thrilled to know that he had picked up a genuine mint tested for $150.

May not have all the facts, but facts are such small details.

Gist: Keep a keen eye on those auctions, especially the ones with bad pictures and descriptions.

Actually....I knew it was real when I put the bid in. And I had to go all the way up to $159, not $150.

knifeaholic,

Can you spare a few close up photos of the Tang Stamp (both sides)? ....On the pin issue, when Jim Parker made the Classics sometimes one pin was used in this area depending on the handle strength!

Steve, given that you knew what it was when you made the original post; I am a little confused... (nothing new) It reads as if you wanted help to verify exactly which Classic it was, with the foregone conclusion that it was a Classic.

Roger, do you have an example of a 72 pattern with one end cover pin? None in the 75+ shown in the book or any I have handled had a single pin. But with Classics anything is possible (even probable).
