Need advice on removing blade etches

Howdy knifers,
I have some Marble's fixed blades with the Landmark
series blade etches in color
Bear MGC with North American hunting club etch on em

Question is, what would be the best way to return these
blades back to all steel look without scratching them all up ???
Hopefully, without using a buffing wheel
Your suggestions would be very much appreciated

How deep is the etch?

They seem to almost be painted on

I supposed you could sand it off with 400 grit wet or dry sandpaper.

Now if you want a high polish finish on the blade by hand, you will have to sand it all the way up through 8000 grit polishing paper. Then a buffer would finish it off to a high polish.
But you are probably talking about 8 hours + of hand sanding!
A LOT of hand work.


Personally, I would use my buffer and a Scotch Brite wheel.
It is much faster and gives you a more uniform pattern to the steel.

removing etches is next to impossible without t some point scratching or buffing the blade.

If you are just going to use it for a backup user, I wouldn't worry about the etch myself.
But that is just me.

Thanks again fella's, I actually got to thinking,
the boy will turn 40 day after opening day of deer
season this year, and i am gonna give it to him buffed,
with THE BIG 40 wrote on it
We allready have a few more things in store for him at the camp

if the lettering is araised above the surface like paint as you say you might try a good quality stripper to remove the etch? Can't hurt.
