I picked this up today

Hopefully someone can tell me what company makes it and how old it is

an old Jack 4'' 7/8'' closed
blade is 4"
tang reads PRESS BUTTON - KNIFE CO. WALDEN N.Y.
BONE HANDLE
AUTO OPEN -push button
Lock blade - push button release

any help will be greatly appreciated

Damn Gino you LUCKY dog.....That is one awesome find!!! Definately worth getting up early sunday morning for. I think it has a Schrade connection...but Ill let someone more knowledgable fill in the details. Awesome!!!! Mark

I never saw anything like this one tho - hoping someone out there can help.

this looks like the INVINCIBLE pattern made by PRESS BUTTON in about 1898. when new is probably had the etch across the blade. nice knife.

It was made by Walden Knife Co. George Schrade was the designer.

Real Knice find Gino.

Goin's Encyclo of Tang markings says:
"Press Button Knife Co. Walden NY c1893-1923
Press Button produced a knife invented by George Schrade
in 1891.
He assigned the patent to Gottlieb Schrade.
The Press Button Knife Co. was formed in 1893 w/ George
Schrade as vice president.

Press Button was in a small shop at 137 Centre St. NY City.
About 18 men were employed but production was somewhat
limited due to the inability to secure efficient help.

Edward Whitehead pres. of the Walden Knife Co. was attracted to this new knife.
He induced Schrade to relocate in Walden NY.
The Wlden Knife Co. provided the proper facilities to manufacture
this knife andsteady progress resulted.

The Walden Knife Co purchased an interest in the Press Button Knife Co with George Schrade as superintendant.

In ten years, 100,000 dozen "Press Buttons" were made using
Firth's steel in the blades.
There were about 12 different patterns from the smallest ladies knife to the large hunting knife.

In 1903 Schrade sold his interest to the Walden Knife Co.
Walden continued to operate the firm until their plant was closed in 1923."
Then Goin's has a photo of knife with caption:
'Excerpt from the 1907 Belknap Hardware catalog,
depicting a Press Button Knife.'

I did some google research and found out the same info you gave me (just not as extensive)
I really appreciate you time and knowledge
the knife is def cool and now I know there is a co called the "press button knife co."
and its cool to know that george schrade made this knife
a 100 year old knife is somethin special too!

it is a relative
yours was made after 1923 acording to the tang
from 1892 - 1923 george schrade made these knives under the co. name - press button knife co. walden n.y.

look at the tang on my blade.

he also made a series of push button knives aftre he started schrade walden in 1923
