Prestolite is correct for the old carbide headlamps.
Autolite is a brand name of Ford Motor Co. auto parts.

Here's what I was thinkin of and it's an AUTO-LITE.
http://whatafind-antiques-collectibles. ... -lamp.html
Stole this off the inter-web..
I wonder if they are the same size as what the small acetylene and MAPP gas tanks use today.*In the May 8, 2003 issue of The Daily Screw, Bob Roger wrote this story about the Prestolite Key:
Regarding the April 28 issue of The Daily Screwwith the Sommer's powderhorn - If readers are wondering what the square hole in the powderhorn is for, it is a Prestolite key. Prestolite developed a process for filling tanks with acetylene gas (the traditional way was to drip water onto calcium carbide, which produces acetylene gas in real time). The small Prestolite tanks were mounted on bicycles and the running boards of cars (or under the seat), and a copper or brass tube ran to the acetylene lamp(s) on the front.
To light the lamp, the valve on the tank was opened using the "key" (it was a square shank on the valve) by one person, and another person held a match at the lamp, and warned "stand back!" I don't have the start date for Prestolite (I'm thinking circa 1885), but they existed on the cars until circa 1915, then quickly phased out. Sometimes the caplifters had two different sized square holes, so the Prestolite system must have made two different sized tanks/valves. I would suspect that bicycle tanks would be smaller than car tanks.

It may have been carried to Church on Sundays but it wasn't used to cut anything
The bail is stamped STERLING

I'd be more than happy to date your little knife. Send it on to me and I'll take it out on the town regularly. Hey don't thank me. I'm glad to be able to help.

This is an old Ulster Knife Co. sleeveboard whittler with horn handles. I think it's been cleaned, it's about 3 5/8" long, a pretty big whittler.
Not my picture, I downloaded it when I bought the knife.

Re: Ulster Collecting
Keith: The handles on these two look similar. The Schrade Walden Zephyr is from 1948. It is 3 1/16", and completely stainless. No silver markings on the bail. They could be from same era. What is the tang stamped on the 189? I would like that swedge the 189 has.ozzie marie wrote:Ulster 189 Gents Knife

Re: Ulster Collecting
Here is the only one I have. ULSTER USA 63. Nice swedge and sabre ground. Don't know if handles are bone or composition. I just noticed, this is the same knife as my Camillus Scout knife without the match strike pull.

Re: Ulster Collecting
If I could find more in the same condition as this one I would certainly have more. What I'm finding is broken blades and scales and a lot of rusting and pitting.

Thanks Charlie. Actually realized I had the matching jack in that greenish bone.

A little tarnished, but nice little knife.

Rodgers bone brothers! Great pair!! (remember nudging your teen buddies and saying that??
)
It'd be nice to plunk them down in front of the opinionated crowd at BRL's forum, and see if they (we) agree that those handles are indeed Rodger's bone!

Well, I just got my 2nd Ulster, 3 1/4" closed, ebony handles. Been used a lot but not too abused, no snap on main blade but good with secondary.
