Rare tang stamp?

Can anyone clue me in on the signifigance of the tang stamp in the picture? It is on a 1979 Balloon Whitler pattern 6383.

That would be a RARE stamp cuz I don't think Case made it

Can you show a picture of the whole knife?

and I collect 83 Whittlers. Knifeaholic might be your best chance for an answer on this one. He's really sharp (no pun intended) on Case knives. Post a complete picture and send him a PM. Good luck!

I saw same tang in an ebay auction, seller called it a 'contract knife'
tang stamp. First I'd seen of it, so hope we can get a non partial
unbiased ofishul explanation to confirm or debunk this ebayer's
'contract knife' theory.

The ebay auction was # 350320475354 . I believe you can still see it by searching for the item number. Could it possibly be a refurb or something along those lines?

notice the tang difference on the blades? this is a dead givaway! in my opinion this is a refurbished knife.

CC was a designation used by Case to indicate concave grind, but it was rarely used, and only on one or two patterns in the early XX era...and then it would be a suffix to the pattern number like 11031 Sh CC.

I honestly have never seen the marking in question, the knife to me looks 100% original.

Case did use a "CC" marking for a few years in the late 70's to early 80's to designate knives that were SFO's for club knives, but that was different and was part of the pattern number stamp, and this one is not a club knife anyway.

I'm stumped.

Looking at the tang stamp again, up close, it looks like a small C inside of a large C.

I think it IS a SFO, But what for??

I have this knife in hand now. It is indeed a small "c" inside of an elongated "c." Is there anyway to track down more information on this? No box or paperwork was supplied, just the knife.
