Have no interest in selling, but as time allots I might supply an article if not too many pages. It oft times is an irreplaceable reference.

Please keep in mind the tome was copyright 1973. I'm pretty sure their are several folks on the forum who not even conceived then. Right click it a couple of times if unreadable.

1973, second place, South East Asia war game. ::disgust:: It wasn't a game for those who gave their all or came back shattered wrecks.

The beginning of the end of the Republic of Viet Nam.

My squadron, VA-82, which was part of CAG 8( Carrier Air Group 8 ), Task Force 66, aboard the CVA-66 USS AMERICA, dropped the last bombs of any Naval squadron on Viet Nam just prior to the official cease fire in Jan, 1973. We stood down for 24 hours after the cease fire and then we bombed Cambodia for two weeks before we pulled off the "Dixie Station" gun line and headed for Olongapo in the Phillipine Islands.

The USS AMERICA has been struck from the rolls of US fighting ships and sunk, my old squadron has been decommissioned.

I was 20 years old. :P

The topic has segued from a book to 1973 remembrances, I'll join in.

The year I graduated from high school. My first car wreck........I totaled a van. The year my fun loving, creative, kind hearted, mellow older brother came back from Viet Nam; one of those shattered wrecks. But at least he came back...................

Owd Wullie, and all you other veterans - especially you Vietnam vets - let me take this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU for your service.
Thank God I was too young for the 'nam. Later in life I got to know quite a few vietnam vets. Considered many of them my friends, including one Steven Roach who survived three tours in nam. Got shot up on two ocasions. Survived mostly intact - only to get killed by a buddy in an accidental shooting. God rest his soul. I know he's in Heaven - well, you know the rest.

So as not to go to far away from original post. I happen to think this has the makings of some fantastic stories. It will be in off topic named favorite Humorous Military experiences, stories, fact or fiction.

Thanks for putting us in check Moss. I can't move a single post by itself, only the entire topic which is not the thing to do here. We'll just back off from the off topic comments.
