The 59L's from what i've looked up were made in the late 70's, but still not sure.

I think ..... and please correct me if I'm wrong ... because of the lightning S the knife was made in the 80s', but the dots should be above the USA not to each side.
Can't be the early 90s' because 90 - 93 the date was stamped on the tang ????? Got me a little confused.

Some collectors refer to that as the "floating dots" stamp...used in the 90's.
I have never seen that handle material on a Case knife...maybe something similar but not that coloring and the lack of handle pins on a 59L is odd. It's a real Case but maybe a post factory rehandle.

Like steve said made in the '90's and those handles are not factory and the blade etch is probably aftermarket also.

Looks like it was a part of the JOE CAMEL GEAR that used be offered by RJR.
I figure it was made during that time period.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_CamelJoe Camel (officially Old Joe) was the advertising mascot for Camel cigarettes from late 1987 to July 12, 1997, appearing in magazine advertisements, billboards, and other print media.
I figure it was made during that time period.

May I suggest you contact Case and see if they can give you any history on that knife. I would hope they would have records of a contract with Camel. I'm guessing it may be factory original thru and thru.
Here's a link to help you in contacting them...........

Please let us know if they tell you anything.

Re: Case XX 59L SS(Camel Series)
The 1996 59L floating 4 dots tang stamp looks to be correct. I have a stag handled 59L with a 1995 floating 5 dots tang stamp that I luckily found in a box of cheap lockbacks at a pawn shop for $6 or $8. Case confirmed the complete knife and floating dot tang stamp on mine. This floating dots tang stamp can be found in use on Case lockbacks from 1993-1999. My knife has a bronze or copper (?) bushing that the blade tang rides on the pivot pin. Very smooth action. Over all assembly fit of my knife is as good as any production knife I've owned. My knife's stag handles are pinned without a shield. I have no knowledge of the type of handles or blade etch used on your knife but they could possibly be explained by Wullie's info.
