Restomod of a Boker Electrician's Knife

Ever since I saw Darksev's January giveaway knife, I wanted one! Since that lucky dawg glenn won that one - and I'm too broke to buy one - I decided to take the plunge and do it myself. I started with an old 9229 I won on ebay for about $5. I used spalted maple handles. Here's what I ended up with. As you can see, there are plenty of fit and finish issues, and I haven't quite figured out that pin spinner yet.
But I kinda like her...
I enjoyed it so much I went and bought four more electrician's knives.
All I know about pocket knives I learned on ALL ABOUT POCKET KNIVES.

Looks good Ricky, especially considering it is your first attempt!

Spalting is a fungus that gets into the wood after it is fallen.
It usually softens the wood some, so you usually find that spalted wood for knife handles has been stabilized, to prevent damage to the soft wood.

It looks good but now you're hooked! With a little practice you can peen heads as round as a spinner can spin them, but you must be careful not to crack the scales. I never used a spinner up until a year or so ago and I still find myself peening instead. Hard to break old habits I guess

Uh oh, I think I'm already there. I've already made plans to go to the local farmer's market tomorrow. I heard about a guy who has a $5 knife barrel.

Seriously, thanks a lot guys. I've learned a lot from y'all. The photos and instructions in the knife repair forum are great. No telling how many future knife makers you'll inspire by your altruistic efforts.

I had a lot of success on my first few mods, when I took the time to write down on a piece of paper, ALL the steps I was going to take in repairing the knife.

Then, I reviewed (or marked it as I went along) that sheet when I was done to see if I missed anything, got it in the wrong order or otherwise made a mistake. It really, really helped me to get the next one done faster and with more success. IMHO, this is particularly useful for "tuning" the walk'n'talk of the blades before getting the whole thing peened together again.
