Explosives tool, I think...

Post by mtds »

It won't be long before someone with all the details replies, but in the meantime, I'm pretty sure that it is a tool for men working with explosives. I saw something similar, but without the knife blade, when I was in the Marines.

The blasting cap is crimped onto the detonating cord or fuse with the u-shaped jaws. The pointed leg on the tool pierces the paper wrap on the explosive and makes a deep well/hole for the cap.

Is the cutout on the pointed leg used to measure something? Maybe the proper depth of the well/hole for some standard sized cap?

it could be an explosives knife. it has a lot of the same features as brl 3rd's description.

W.B.

I have seen one of these also, when I read Mtds's reply that is when I remembered it.
They are explosives pliers more modern, guessing I would say the 60's or maybe later.
Search eBay for Pliers in the 'Mining' catagory, one will pop up there sooner or later. I have seen them there also.
There is a company that still makes them or did last I heard/saw. My source on that stuff is in Iraq and make take awhile before I talk/see him again.

Nice find ::tu::
