Case "The Great Chiefs" Sitting Bull knife?

Post by BuyersAndBrokers »

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums, but I'm sure I'll be frequenting here to try to absorb some knowledge from the experts! I'm an estate dealer out of Georgia, and recently bought a few large collections made up mostly of Case knives, and a few Schrade, Hen&Rooster, etc. One of the pieces in the collection I haven't been able to find much info. on is a Case "The Great Chiefs" Sitting Bull knife. It's in a box similar to the KKK knife that's also in the collection, which from researching these forums have found out is not a factory design. I suspect that this also was not Case factory inscribed. The tang is marked 6254ss, and the main blade has 5 x's and 3 dots (2002) The bolster is marked 008 (I assume it to be number 8 of so many in a series) Is this a factory Case design, or aftermarket? Any help/information would be greatly appreciated!

Eric

I haven't asked Case, I guess that would be the logical thing to do :) Is there a forum on here to do so, or would I have to call them? Sorry for the dumb questions, but I'm new. Thanks!

There is a Case forum at this site.....

http://www.knifeforums.com/forums/showforum.php?fid/74/

The wonderful lady that usually helps with these type of questions (Shirley Boser) is quite sick, but maybe one of the members has some information. I did a search, but came up empty, so maybe it's an aftermarket piece by Frost or Smoky Mountain, or the like.

P. S.
I did find Case Trappers in Houston Price's guides, packaged like that one (but not a Sitting Bull model) for Indians, Generals, etc. It was intimated that many were, in fact, aftermarket. Not rare, or particularly valuable, in most CASES ( ).

Thanks for the info. El Lobo. I really appreciate you taking the time to search it out a little bit for me. I too came up empty when I searched various sites and guides. I am beginning to think it's aftermarket, there's quite a few similarities to the KKK knife I mentioned earlier, especially the cardboard "Case Collectors Series" insert in the upper left hand corner of the display box. I haven't given up yet though, I'll post on the Case forum you gave me, maybe they can tell me a little bit more about it, I hope. Thanks again!
