mint Ulster Old Timer 58OT - collect it or use it?

Hello all,

I found this forum as I did a bit of research on a recent purchase. So far, I have really enjoyed all the information and pictures. I look forward to spending more time perusing the wealth of information here.

Let me preface my story and my question by saying that I'm a pocket knife user but not a collector, at least not yet. I recently purchased a box lot of knives at an auction in order to glean out some good using knives. It's a long story but I frequently give away good usable pocket knives so I'm always on the lookout for bargain box lots. Anyway, as I was looking through my purchase I happened across an Ulster Old Timer 58OT. To my untrained eye, the knife appears new in every way with the exception of a few small (pepper flake size) rust spots on one side of the clip blade. Initially, I thought I would put the knife in my carry rotation but then I questioned myself because I wondered if the knife might be a collectable item. So, I'm looking for advice or information. Should I use the knife or collect it?

Do Not use it, lay it back or sell it to a collector. If you sold it you could buy 2 or 3 user knives.

I will trade you a new 34OT for your 58OT, if you just want a user.

I don't use my 58OTs as they do have a significant place in Schrade history.

Just my thoughts on it.

Thanks to everyone for the comments and information. I believe I will put it away for now. I thought the knife's connection to the Prince Albert tobacco mail-in was pretty cool. I've often thought that I'd like to start collecting knives. Maybe this is a beginning???

At the very least you should buy a Prince Albert can with the knife offer on the back. That'll lead to wanting to add the paper offer, then that'll lead to wanting the other knives that are pictured on the tin. Or at least thats the way it worked with me.
