6380 Case Big Whittler

Let's talk about this knife, I've wanted one for a long time, finally got a sweet 1971 last week, feel like I stole it (it came w/ some others I bought, the 6380 was probably worth what I gave for all of them) It is extremely close to mint, prettiest matching bone handles I've ever seen. Anyway, I think a 6380 is an awesome knife, but, I have a few questions......when/why did Case quit making it in the late '70's?? And when was it first made (I think I've seen some XX's??) Any whittler gurus?? All I know is, is that I'd always wanted one, and they're bad expensive (+ $100 for used ones on ebay!!)

The last year for it was, IIRC, 1978. The oldest one that I have ever seen was XX green bone, and it was listed in the 1950 era catalog. It was not listed in the 1938 Tested era catalog or in the 1941 price list. I have heard people claim that it was made with the Case Tested tang stamp, but I have never seen one or documantation of any older than XX.

parker's books list a tested but ferguson' don't. perhaps the case historian could clear it up. patterns that don't sell well are dropped. they were tools then and no one was thinking about collectibility.

Thank you carl I had seen this one the other day.
It's really nice but a bit rich for my blood.

Knife collecting is alot like fishing, "you just keep trying and one day you will get lucky" The hunt is half the enjoyment of it all.

Yea... That is a real dandy. The big added bonus with this eBay knife is that it is what many would call true Red bone.

...adds a lot to value.

Yeah, I even had that one in my ebay, just curious as to what it's gonna bring. It still has 3 days left!! Wouldn't you like to find about 20 of those in an old run down store somewhere!!
