This pattern is another example of a knife that to my knowledge only Queen is making and only in their S&M line. Like the Reverse Gunstock Stockman and the Swaybelly Trapper I have been looking for information about there origins. For instance I've heard that the Rail Splitter was an old Remington pattern that Queen revived. So if anyone has any information on any of these patterns please chime in.
Now I know that other cutlery Co.s make a Sampler but they all have a different blade shape than what Queen is putting out. The ones I've seen look like this Case/Bose...

From what I've read this pattern was used, back in the day to reach into a cotton bale and extract a small sample for inspection. To my mind the Case blade shape would be more practical for this application. The Queen design has more of a rope blade feel, kind of a giant mutation between a sheepsfoot and an Elephant toenail. Now don't get me wrong I love this pattern, (as it turns out I seem to like most all unusual patterns) and I'm pretty sure that I have all the examples that Queen has produced. That being said I haven't really found a specific practical purpose for this blade shape, with the exception of food prep, she is a great chopper!
On a side note, I'm usually quite surprised at the price this single blade brings at auction. It has to be relatively easy to produce compared to say a stock knife.
Anyway Queen included this pattern in both the 4th & 5th Annual Reproduction Series, the File & Wire Series and a couple of SFO's This knife is 4 1/8" closed and 7 5/16" open.
