Hen & Rooster knife
Does anybody besides me have any Hen & Rooster knives? I think the workmanship is really good and thier stag scales are awesome.

Re: Hen & Rooster knife
I have a few and hoping to acquire some more. None are stag though. All of mine are bone except for an enameled 160th anniversary bartender's knife.

Jethro, what color grips on that congress? Also are those bolsters brass, or is that just an optical delusion?

Thanks Blue, & I'm not sure if its an obstacle delusion, I don't have that one any more. They got a brassy tint to them for sure. Not sure what those handles were called, I'd never seen another like them though.

Re: Hen & Rooster knife
Neat thing about the newer Hen & Roosters. You can tell what handle material came from the factory by the tang stamp on the blade. I haven't seen a comprehensive list anywhere, but there is one of those 334-NNC for sale on feebay right now.

Not sure if this is the right place for it, but since we're talking about it... Here's the way to decode the tang stamps on the modern day hen & roosters. It's a good way to tell if the blade and handles are what came from the factory:

hey BLUE >>>>>> thanx good buddie!
i saw this post and figured someone might ask for the stamps again.
i was gonna just link to the post you did.
thanx very much!
also blue i wanted to let you know that for sometime now hen and rooster
has been adding letters to their stamp.
like in the very first knife. ending in -ds which stands of course for DEER STAG.
some of them will get really long. like 213-dscr. dscr = DEER STAG CATTLE RUSTLER
CATTLE RUSTLER referring to the etch on the blade.the second set of letters represent the etching.
anyway i hope helped.
personally i like hen and rooster knives.

mtds, those Hen & Roosters are really nice. Can you give some info about the middle one pictured? (Tang numbers, closed size, etc.) Thanks for any info.

Re: Hen & Rooster knife
That coffin jack was 3-5/8 inches long closed, single-bladed, with a round tand and very stout backspring. It was very heavily made for an H&R, at least in my experience, but had that old workmanship with polished inner surfaces and so on. I bought it in 1980 at a gun shop in Christiansburg, Virginia for $55, carried it some and used it lightly, and then sold it in 2007 for $140. Its tangs are pictured below:bloomingeek wrote:mtds, those Hen & Roosters are really nice. Can you give some info about the middle one pictured?
