what is the most hated (case) pattern and handle types with collectors?

Hmm....that's a tough one. I just picked up a few nice ones the other day, and it included a '40-'64 6216 1/2 (small jack knife, mint), and I told someone that was probably the least-sought-after knife in that era?? I've never been a Peanut fan, myself, don't really care for the small square jaw pattern (44) But, I respect them anyway, to each his own!!

. I think all patterns have some merit. I'm not an Case collector but IMO the new 100 bill handles are ghastly. Not a fan of the leopard or zebra skin

. I do like the snakeskin though...go figure. I seem to remember a bubble gum handle

or was that just a bad dream

i don't care for the new fangled laser designs. to me they look too commercial. the new case knives are designed for a certain niche of jewellry collectors. it's not about creating a tool that might be collectible, it's about making money. if that is what it takes in todays knife market to remain in business i guess i'll not complain too much if it keeps their doors open. hopefully the queen manufactured and canal streets will keep making collectible tools. i guess that's why i like the older cases. colors don't bother me but i prefer the less flashy ones.

Howdy Walt,

I will ride fench with what johnnie says on the new line of W. R. Case & Sons knives! .... To be honest with ya'll, I stopped collecting any Case knife past the 1992 year made for the same reasons (the new fangled laser designs are just too commercial looking) + & I have said this before & will say it once again, the shields are glued on instead of being pinned (very bad move on their part) + I don't know if its just me but after handling many of the new age knives it is my own personal opinion that most if not all have very weak back springs nowadays or am I just getting stronger in my old age???

thanks all for the welcome! found this site through rimfirecentral.com. thought i take a look and get some info on a pocketknife for hunting. wow! i feel a fever comming on! i think just caught the knife bug. help mr.wizzerd! help! lol

For me, since I like a practical knife.

WARNING, THESE ARE ONLY MY HONEST OPINIONS FOR PATTERNS AND HANDLE TYPES FROM MY PERSONAL PREFERENCES. I AM IN NO WAY ATTACKING ANY KNIFE COLLECTOR TO WHAT HE/SHE COLLECTS, TO EACH HIS/HER OWN!

I do not like any of the new case handle materials, that included bubba gum pink.

I don't like elephant toenails, sunfish, or any other unwieldly extremely wide knife, excepting only clasp knives which a really like.

I don't collect Case, but once in a while one makes it's way into my collection. They are the old carbon steel ones. I am not a fan of stainless steel knives (except some of the newer stainless). I became disillusioned with Case in the 1980's when they looked like Parker stuff, just American made. It seemed to me that they were made to look at and not to use. I appreciate a nice looking knife, but I think they must be functional as well. If it won't hold an edge then I am not very interested.

Just my $.02, (not trying to offend anyone)

A lot of people will probably hate me for saying this,but I don't care much for the hawkbill pattern and as far as handles go,I would have to say my least favorite is the orange G-10 handles, they look cheap to me.

I still don't exclude them from my collection!!
