lil help guys...............

i have had these two knives since i was about 19 or 21ish.........i remember i was heavy into ak47's and sks' at the time...but my mom ,who is a junker(antique hound)for as long as i can remember........dad too .......well she dropped off a box w/ these two knives in it....and some trench art i still have, if i remember right??? i have been told different things by "knife guys" .....are these butcher/kitchen knives???????????????????

blade swoops upward and in roughly 6 1/4" long,carbon steel 1/8" thick spine, swedged false top near tip...........

Not my field of expertise but here's a link to a previous thread that might help on the second one you pictured (Russell Green River Works knife) From what I can tell, the one Mossdancer has posted looks like the same knife as the one you pictured. Perhaps he can shed some light....

I've got a well used set of those Russel knives. My dad bought 'em in 1948. It came with a steel, 2 skinners, ( like yours pictured ), long skinny "boning" knife, and an aluminum scabbard affair that held all of the stuff. His scabbard disappeared somewhere along the line. I remember it and it had a Russel Green River Works decal on it. Daddy still has the steel and I have the knives. Finally retired them from the kitchen as my wife wouldn't keep 'em OUT of the damned dishwasher.

i have been told it is a late 1890 to 1920 era
been told 1920-1940 era
i have been told it is a butcher/kitchen knife.....
been told huntin' knife(carried in pouch).......
been told skinner.........
been told its a patch knife....... (also carried in a pouch no sheath)
all in all................seems like a skinner
people seem to have seen or used these(green river) knives in many ways???????
i think there a cool design..............
how about the ontario??????????????????????

Ontario = kitchen butcher knife.

The design on the GR's probably hadn't changed since the 1890's.
