Re: First Cup Diner!
Good morning Everyone . Well we slept in this morning. Usually at least one of us is up by 530 making coffee. Guess we needed it . That dang smoke from the fires was really affecting some . My eyes are still itching. Can’t imagine it was good for the wildlife . Many folks canceled their trips to the great outdoors. A few fish guides we know said most people want their money back. A tough business. Think we’re going to the farmers market . Then not sure, depends on weather. You all stay cool out there .

Good Morning Everyone!
My apologies I haven't been around very much lately. Someone had asked about my wood buring and Lighthouses and I have done a few but they are not in big demand down here in North Texas. Dale I'm sorry I missed your procedure back on the 8th, I pray that your healing will be quick so you don't have to sleep in the chair.
It appears that all of my family in the South Texas flood area are okay and the loss of life is nothing like it was in last year's flooding.
I'm under a lot of pressure, mainly by myself, to get some special orders done in my wood burning so that is where I'm spending most of my time.
Everyone have a great weekend and be safe...

Re: First Cup Diner!
Good Sunday Mornin', Chris and the rest of crew.
The weather girls on the 2 local TV channels in Panama City were excited about Invest 91 down in the Gulf. One mentioned that the hurricane hunter plane will be checking it out this morning. Had some light rain yesterday afternoon, it was accompanied by thunder so I stayed in the house,
It's slightly foggy and 74° as it is getting light outside.
Off road diesel is still $4.30, that's tough on the big boys with the big tractors! Thinking back when we had fuel delivered to our little operation, when it was hard to pay $0.25 per gallon.
Church in a couple of hours then after dinner I'm looking for that traditional Sunday afternoon nap!
Y'all have a blessed day!

Re: First Cup Diner!
Up too early for my liking so a nap will likely happen this afternoon. Tomorrow should be the last of the heat wave. Upper 70’s and low 80’s sure sound good!
Gotta feed the birds, looks like everything is empty. And need to water my flowers.
Had the gutters cleaned last week now I need hose off some debris on the deck.
Time for a second cup and get busy.

Re: First Cup Diner!
Good morning. yesterday's weather was near perfect but today will be a little too warm again. No rain in sight. This afternoon Jason and I will pack up for tomorrows trip up North. The church we will be working on is up near the chimney that sticks out of the top of Minnesota just South of Lake of the Woods. It's the most Northerly part of the continental US. They are far enough west to be out of the Canadian smoke as long as the wind doesn't do anything goofy. Church is in a few hours. The two camper style knives I was cleaning up for the guy we are going to do an addition for, and that we couldn't figure out the makers stamping on turned out to be a Robeson and a Pal. He told me I could keep them if I wanted. The brand he collected most and likes the most is Pal. He never realized it was a Pal so I called him yesterday and told him what they were and that I was bring them back all identified and lightly cleaned. He said he'd like to keep the Pal but gave ne the Robeson. I offered him $50 but he said nope, just keep it. I have about 25 scout style knives, but I don't think I have a Robeson so that was a pleasant surprise. I gotta run. Have a great Sunday.____Dave

Morning folks, the weather is peat and repeat, pop-ups that have a uncanny way of going around old Homer's homestead. Maybe today will be our day
although the boss and I watered the essentials already.
Wampus was awol this morning.
We said goodbye to a angel on earth yestiddy.
Trying to stay cool is the plan for the day.

Good morning. It looks like another WARM day is heading our way. I'm not sure how hot it will be up near the border we are headed to work for the week. I'm pretty well packed and the work trailer is about ready. I'm pretty sure we forgot something. I hate leaving Jane today because it's our 57th anniv. I don't ever remember missing one before. We went with friends out to dinner after church yesterday and that was really nice. It's supposed to be mostly sunny this morning, but it looks kind of gloomy. There is still some smoke in the air so that is part of it. Have a good week and be safe._____Dave

Happy anniversary to you and Jane!
And a Good Morning to all the patrons of the FCD. Our weather here in Central Texas has been pretty much pete and repeat with a few unusual showers thrown in. The Hill Country west of here has really been inundated by heavy rains and flooding. Lake Travis and Lake Buchanan are full for the first time in several years. Actually, Travis is just past full and Big Buchanan is just a percent or two less than full. Fall fishing should be great around here.
Hope you all have a great day today.

Re: First Cup Diner!
Good Mornin', from Starvation Plantation.
Happy 57th anniversary to Miss Jane and Dave!
72° this morning, sun is hitting the tall pines west of the house. There were 2 deer under the Sand pear tree when I took the mini-dachshund out to do his business. I'm sure they noticed the fence. Time will tell if it works.
Yesterday was good, good services at church, good afternoon nap, good rain shower, half inch in the gauge, good visit with school teacher daughter and 3 long phone with other family members.
The grass can wait a day or so, the weather may be getting wet, depending on the disturbance in the Gulf. The weather news said it should become Bertha some time today. Looks like it may go west where they had so much rain last week.
Y'all forgive me as we don't usually mention politics on FCD but the mayor of New York City would make the preacher cuss! Y'all know.
Looks like the U.K. is going full socialist, too.
One a lighter note, noticed a coon in the shop this morning eating the barn cats breakfast, he's got to go.
July is 2/3 gone, this year is moving along. Y'all have a great Monday!

Re: First Cup Diner!
Today is the last day of heat advisories thankfully.
Gonna be a busy next 2 weeks, working 5 days each eeek. 3 or 4 music events and a DU meeting. So much for retirement!
So far the wildfire has stayed north and east of here but that might change later today.
Time to get some breakfast and figure out what to take for lunch.

Morning, FCD
Currently 81 right now and we're looking at a high of 94 with a heat index of 110. This is the Missouri Ozarks first heat blast of '26. And it's starting out like Hades itself.
Was mowing our fenced in backyard yesterday when the skies opened up on me and cut loose. I kept mowing until the trimmings weren't shooting out of the mower anymore. So I have a small triangle that needs to be gotten to.
Nothing on the agenda today. Just stay in and stay cool.
Happy 57 to Jane and Dave!
Tree, politics anymore have gotten so utterly ridiculous, you'd swear it was a scripted tv show.
Y'all have a great start to your week! Be safe, be careful and be alert out there!

My builder has come and gone for the day. So far, he's never put in more than half a day any time he's worked here. They have the structure ready to set trusses now. That is scheduled for tomorrow, weather permitting. Current photo below.

We are staying at an outpost owned by the minister of the church we are working on. It's pretty comfortable and we have it to ourselves. It was originally a church that was converted to a fishing outpost up near Lake of the Woods.Paladin wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2026 11:47 amDave, Will you take cots or go to a motel for this job? Re: First Cup Diner!
Good morning from Williams Minnesota. It took us about 3&1/2 hours to get there yesterday and we got in 4&1/2 hours work prepping walls for the siding. The church is in Baudette about 15 miles East. It started raining about 15 minutes after we quit working for the day. Today is supposed to be cloudy with temps in the mid 60's. I don't sleep well in a strange bed so I'm dragging a little this morning. Seeing the church for the first time yesterday, I'm thinking it will definitely take the full two weeks to side it. They promised us they would have it all ready for the siding to go on before we got here, but two very fussy, very slow but really great guys to work with were about 1/8th of the way across the first wall at putting on the Tyvek. Jason and I got our stuff organized and fixed some issues that needed to be done before we start siding, and then ripped the old material off half of another wall and put Tyvek type material on it. By then the other two guys were almost halfway across their first wall. They should be able to keep ahead of us once we start siding, but it would have been good to see that all done before we got here. It's as big a building as I pictured it in my head beforehand. I'll try to get some pictures sometime along the way. Have a good Tuesday.____Dave

Mornin'.
Had my gf daughter clean our Mobil home while we were on vacation in NY. To pay her for her work she requested breakfast at First Watch which is an Upscale breakfast/lunch restaurant. That's in 30 minutes.
Knife sales are slow....maybe I need a different occupation.

Re: First Cup Diner!
Good Mornin', Folks.
Windy is the word for today. Alternating between fast moving clouds and bright sunshine this morning, this is related to Bertha out in the Gulf heading west. Kinda warm at 5am, 77°. There's a high pressure north of us keeping the storm in the Gulf and bringing warm air off the water that was reported be in the high 80s last week.
Been to men's prayer meeting earlier this morning. Probably need to change the blades on the mower before I get started again. Worked in the woods yesterday morning disking up a small food plot over to the east side of the farm. Always something to do but I'm not as motivated as I once was. Deer in the yard around 5:45 this morning, hummingbirds are coming to their feeder as are the red birds(Cardinals). Very pleasant on the front porch, just a bit lonely.
Y'all be safe today.

Looks to be a perfect summer day, high about 80 with bright blue skies and NW breeze. Very welcome change from yesterday’s 106 heat index. Work again today, hope to get caught up on misc stuff at the shop and maybe list some stuff on eBay.

Morning folks!
It's currently 84 already here in the Missouri Ozarks and we're looking at a high of 96 and with that comes a heat index of 104. Um...I was going to finish mowing after being rained out Sunday, but no thank you. Tomorrow, I'll finish it as we're expecting a big temperature drop where the high will only be 84.
Wife is now power of attorney over a close friend of ours who's 79. Seems she's kinda lost her mind as she believes Elon Musk is in love with her over social media and she has been sending "Elon" (the actual scammer behind it) Apple cards, each in the hundreds of dollars.
. She also thought she was going to marry a very young man who claimed to be a General in the Army (also a scammer). She gave him her home address
. All this has us on edge regarding her safety and what she'll do next.
