Old Schrade? Colt knife

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Old Schrade? Colt knife

Post by ThomasCarey »

I am pretty sure this was made by Schrade. Trying to figure out how old it might be. Anyone know?

The paperwork in the box might have a copyright date. It would be one of the more "modern" type knives that they made in the last years of the company. I think late 1990s or early 2000s.

It looks like a Gerber LST.

It would be good to see the markings on the handle and the tang stamps. And the paperwork.

I am assuming the Schrade paperwork in the box came with the knife originally. That would rule out Gerber in my mind.

I agree about the paperwork - if it came new in the box with the knife. But it sure looks like a Gerber 400 to me. ::shrug::

Thanks

The SP1,2 and 3 were great little lightweight knives. Many, Many companies had their logos put on them. I have a LL Bean SP1 with a maroon handle that I used for a long time as a EDC. Its pretty beat up these days. Retired it.
