Morning folks, 70 was the low upper 80's to be the high. slight chance of pop-ups this afternoon.
Wampus was on his throne waiting patiently for breakfast.
Like farmer the ZT is calling my name, I used to cut around 4 acres but I've farmed some of mine out to a young man that lives adjacent to my little farm.

Well, I'm again the late comer to the dining.
78 now with a high of 88 on the way with bright sunshine.
Got my fenced in backyard mowed yesterday. It's small enough for a push mower. Got a might raggedy, but nice and velvety now.
Well.. ...garage cleaning starts today. I look forward to doing it like getting teeth pulled without any anesthesia. I believe I'll have to do it in small increments as it's just too overwhelming for just me. Wife and I was going to do it together two years ago, but since my wife became a caregiver to her mother here and she's dealing with her own aches and pains, it's all kinda fallen on me.
Might catch some All Star Game action tonight . Can't believe NFL preseason is just a month away .

Yesterday's excursion to B'ham went well. The wife and I both got our 'issues' addressed in a timely manner.
Managed to get home in time for a little nap before Community Club. CC was kinda thin last night, several
regulars were no-shows. Did have one new couple show up. Turned out to be the MIL and step-FIL of a feller
I used to work with. I knew of them being in the neighborhood, but had never met them.

Well, let's get this hump day started so we can get to the weekend !

72 degrees this morning at Starvation Plantation, we only got up to 87 yesterday and without rain. A pleasant day for riding the zeroturn. Hopefully, I can finish the rest of it today.
Halfway watched the ball game last night, always fun to see the pitchers.
2nd week of the 5 week Bible study on "Demolishing Guilt" tonight at the church. Men's study was well attended last week but the ladies study had more attendees. If it wasn't for faithful women most churches wouldn't be as effective as they are.
Sun is finally hitting the tall pines, time to wake the little sausage dog for his early morning stroll.

We are looking at around mid-80's today Cassady's baby showed up yesterday morning early healthy and with all the right parts where they are supposed to be, and they should be home sometime today making us a 4-generation family living here. Good morning, diners.
A beautiful morning. Currently 73 here in the Missouri Ozarks with a high of only 83 today.
Good. Heavens. I just had one of the worst nights of my life. Coming off of the work I did in my garage. I feel lousy.
I jumped into cleaning and trying to bring order back to my garage yesterday and I seemed to have way overdid it. Not being overdramatic, I literally was having trouble walking back into the house when I was done due to my back being hunched over and my thighs just aching. I figured I would pass out unconscious from exhaustion when I went to bed, but I woke up several times tossing and turning. I got hot and cold, hot and cold throwing covers and bringing them back over and over. I'm sitting here now stiff as a frozen two by four. Dont mean to sound like poor pitiful me, but man, what a night.
Today's schedule...rest, rest, rest. Maybe some computer baseball. That about it. Y'all have a great hump day. Be safe, be careful and be alert out there.

Congratulations on your newest great grand Dave.

Garage construction seems to finally be underway. The guys came yesterday and bored a bunch of holes for the poles to go in. They just arrived recently with a load of bagged concrete. Hopefully they'll get most, if not all of the post set today. We'll see........ We've had a lot of rain recently so I know that's factored into the delay. I'm hoping for some rain free days (but not too many).

Good Mornin', Folks.
Enjoying a good hot cup of coffee, watching Panhandle Outdoors on the TV this workday morning. 73° this morning and yesterday was another day where the rain bypassed us. God bless the folks in Texas that are enduring the flooding. The Uvalde name, where last year's tragic girls camp drownings happened, is flooding again.These "hundred year" events seem to have lost schedule!
The outdoor program is about scallop season, rules and regulations this morning. They mentioned gator season opens next month. There have been several tragic alligator encounters in the news lately. We didn't even give them a thought when I was a youngster. The gator population has exploded since they were declared endangered back in the 1960's.
Got all the mowing caught up yesterday just in time to start again next Monday. Seems like I just bought fuel a week ago. Also time to switch blades. They don't stay sharp very long.
Should probably finish the "deer proof" garden fence project today. Time will tell if it works.

Good morning. We are dealing with the Canadian and Northern Minnesota wilderness wildfire smoke. It's the most deliberating thing I've seen up here ever. The 100 degree heat was hard to deal with and our Winters with 30 below weather slow things down, but this smoke, that I've never seen before this bad, is stopping most outdoor work. The few times we have had to deal with wildfire smoke, usually from Canada is an inconvenience, but this time it is so bad that people have to turn off their AC units that aren't central air ones because their house fills with smoke. Thank God we have central. We canceled today's work, which was supposed to be up north of where we live putting in a door and screen door. Yesterday morning we checked out a couple cabins on a lake just down the road from home us for future work, and you could see a little way around the shoreline, but the rest of the lake was hidden with what looked like dense fog that smelled and burned your eyes like you were standing downwind next to a smoky bomb fire. We are supposed to start work on residing a large church up near the Northern Minnesota border next Monday and will be staying at an outpost nearby, but if this persists, I don't think it will happen until the smoke clears. On a more positive note, Cassady and Dan brought their new Baby home yesterday afternoon so we are now a 4-generation family under one roof. Have a good Thursday.____Dave

Wampus was here for breakfast ate and disappeared.
He was proud of old Homer, because he didn't have to high step to get through the grass.
I'm sure I'll be able to find something to do to occupy my time today, all depends on the weather I reckon.
Man the folks in the areas of Texas that are in the floods sure have my sympathies and prayers.

Mother Nature is sure dealing out a crapload of bad stuff. Too hot, too wet, too dry plus the wildfire smoke. Fortunately I’m only a little too hot, might get to warning level tomorrow and the weekend. I remember driving into Minneapolis in June 2023 in the code red wildfire smoke. Not a pleasant experience.
Had a bad case of insomnia last night, not good when I have to work today so no chance of a nap.

It’s a typical summer day here on the creek. It’s hot. It’s humid. It’s July. My air conditioner is hard at it. Fortunately, at least for now, we’re not having to deal with smoke like our neighbors to the north are.
My builder got all the poles set for my garage yesterday. Now he wants to give the concrete plenty of time to set before proceeding further. Below are before and after pics from yesterday.

Visibility is greatly reduced and they're using the "how many extra cigarettes smoked is being outside for an hour equivalent to" scale.

I have 150 pounds of potatoes for my event tonight, but I'm hoping it gets canceled. I'd rather eat all 150 pounds myself than be outside for 4 hours tonight and smoke 8 unfiltered Canadian 100's.

Looks like we'll be having another dry summer day, rain is being "promised" for the 1st few days of next week. We'll know if it happened after it's over. The Canadian smoke up in the north surely makes folks lives difficult as does all the water over in Texas. 94° was yesterday's high.
We finally finished cobbling together our "deer proof" fence and gates yesterday. Time to start working up the soil for the fall punkin patch.
My coffee hit the spot this morning! So far this morning, I've not noticed any hummingbirds, did have a hawk flying low in the front yard.

Good morning. 60 degrees to start the day and 90 later with some rain to wash Canada off our cars and out of our air. We have been seeing sea gulls dead on the roads the past few days and I'm wondering if their demise has anything to do with the smoke. Yesterday I went over to a neighbors home to look over his small knife collection. He is downsizing to move into a smaller building that we are going to remodel for him. He wants to know where to sell knives and might join us here at AAPK. He didn't have anything spectacular, but I took two scout/camper knives home to try to figure out who made them. When I left, he told me to figure out the makers and then keep them if I wanted them. They are in good shape except for the tang wear that hid the stamping just enough to blot out everything except USA, made in USA and a few other letters that didn't make sense to me. I'm going to go through my campers and try to match the punch and can opener blades up. I haven't been on a good knife mystery for a while now and it feels good, almost like I'm living out something fun from my past. Have a great Friday and weekend.____Dave

Wampus has been hanging around close for the last few days, he was awaiting breakfast this morning and went to the throne. He spent most of yestiddy there.
Feed the hummers and woodpeckers, they sure enjoy the juice and suet.

Nothin' new or startling here in Dixie. Sunny and 90's with a small chance of rain this evening.
Need to do some laundry, and the boss mentioned some yard work . . .

Finally determined that there were 4 chicks in the nest on the carport. They got big real quick.
Looked in on them Thursday morning and the nest was empty. I hope they fledged and not something got them.

Good Mornin', Chris. Where's the FCD crew this morning?
74° this morning, made it to 94 yesterday. Still needing rain.
Ran the disk through the fenced in garden spot, showed a small amount of moisture in the soil. The "deer proof" idea makes sense, the 30 foot ends opened and closed without too much effort. We used to call this type of gate a "gap" when a proper gate with hinges was not available, some of you country boys know what I'm describing. Here's how the mess looks:

Finished fence around the 30x80 garden spot before disking.

Gate/gap moved to allow tractor access. The plastic fencing is attached to posts with zip ties/tie wraps and the "gates" are held in place with small bungee cords.

Should be ready for planting atond the 1st of August.

Time to begin working on the cool weather food plot down in the woods.
Nothing pressing today other than house work that never seems to end.
Coffee was good and the hummingbirds are here this morning.

Good morning Chris. Where is everybody? It's 64 now and not supposed to get as hot as yesterday, which wasn't supposed to get as hot as it was either. Yesterday was up into the 90's but the Canadian wildfire smoke finally got a little less dangerous to be outside in. Other people on Facebook were asking about finding dead birds laying around after we found a dead seagull on the road in front of our house and Jason mentioning that he saw several others laying on the road that same day. If you could drive down the road and see several on the road, it makes you wonder how many were lying dead out in the woods where you couldn't see them. My chickens seem to be doing OK with the smoke, but our dog has been really acting funny climbing into my lap (she's a large Shepherd type dog) and hiding behind my chair. She panics when I leave the room without her. She started acting more normal yesterday when the smoke finally cleared up some. Jason and I are sorting out the tools we are going to need for the siding job we are planning to do next week up north. We will be staying up there for the weekdays at an outpost and coming home weekends for the next couple weeks. I've got nothing else planned for the weekend. Have a great Saturday,____Dave
