While I favor multi-blades that one is tempting. Good looking wood grain, Rosecraft's best shield and easy opening. ::tu:: Old style easy opening does not work on a multi-blade any way. I could look it up some where but it's easier to ask. Is it old enough to have a D2 blade?
https://rosecraftblades.com/product/ros ... rct027-rw/

It says its D2, its a older release. The pattern is in the rosecraft vault, so your going to have to wait till the rerelease it. Yes, the lambsfoot blade is a old pattern, should be a excellent for opening boxes and stuff :D

Have some Corn Creek Cutlery & RoseCraft News ...

As most of you know, I have been a RoseCraft Dealer going on three years now, and it has been a great experience. Andy and everyone at RoseCraft have been a valuable asset to my small business. The quality of the brand speaks for itself. Simply, they are great knives! During my time with them, I have had only one return. But, I have made a decision concerning my selling inventory...

After months of thought, due to increased selling at knife shows, I will no longer be carrying the RoseCraft brand. This is strictly a business decision based on what brands are in demand at these shows. In the TN, VA, NC, SC, & KY region I frequent, Case Knives are the biggest sellers. My future inventory will be Case mainly, both here in my AAPK Store and at knife shows.

In the future, Tom (bestgear), will be posting RoseCraft's new release info going forward. I am thankful and ::super_happy:: that someone will be doing this. The brand deserves a spot here and an active forum member who is available to offer new info. Many thanks Tom! ::handshake::

And many thanks to everyone here and elsewhere, who has purchased RoseCraft Blades from me. ::handshake:: ::handshake::
It has been a pleasure!

I’m pleased to be the RCB standard bearer at AAPK going forward - as new releases are announced I will do my best to post them here in a timely fashion but I have no plans to be a dealer for the brand, just a passionate consumer that believes in the brand. ::handshake::

Here is my newest RoseCraft, the Sweetwater Creek Senator with Red Sandalwood. This is number 28 in my RoseCraft collection and out of my almost 1,400 knives it is my opinion that they are one of the best traditional pocket knives on the market with a selection of patterns to satisfy everyone. That's my story

I have a question about Rosecrafts. How would you fellows who own a few (or more than a few) rate the opening pull? Are they nail breakers? Hard to open but not nail breakers? Or easy to open? I recently got my first and it is a nail breaker: just wondering if it is typical.

I have five. Using your words, with my edit, "Stiff to open but not a nail breaker."
I rate all five a my RoseCraft the same for pull.

Mel, I just went through mine comparing the blade opening on them and I got everything. My Holston River Surgeon’s pattern was very easy to open and I think the hardest was the Blue Bone Copperhead. Overall it is my impression that all RoseCraft blade knives are harder to open when new than many other brand names but I hope that with time and use each blade will become a little less "stiff" in opening.

I think it’s hard to grade the opening pull on a brand vs. models within the brand. However, I’d say overall the initial pull is generally between 3 and 4 out of 5 and with regular use they settle-in around 3. I think the larger frame larger blade knives are harder to open but that’s more of a factor of size that you’d find with any quality manufacturer.

Hope that helps Mel.

I want to address the amount of spring pressure that has to be over ridden, the leverage you have to do that and too tightly pinned bolsters separately. You have some control over leverage by model selection. The further the nail nick is from the blade pivot the more leverage you have. While bolsters pinned too tightly together certainly eliminate blade play they can also make snap into full open weak or non-existent. Some times opening and closing the blade many times loosen things enough to give the tight blade a little snap into full open. Some times that doesn't help.

The strength of Rosecraft's springs are more consistent than Case's and a whale of a lot more consistent than the U.S. Queen Company's were in their final years. Rosecraft's springs are stiffer than most slip joint springs. That makes them safer users without adding a lock. All of my Rosecraft slip joints came with great snap into their full open position. On average Case's slip joint blades are easier to open for two reasons, weaker springs and nail nicks further away from the blade pivot. The gentleman who designs most Rosecraft slip joints loves exaggerated blade swages. We used to call the swages false edges but language evolves. Especially on his clip point blades his long swages force the nail nick position to be closer to the blade pivot. While choosing between Rosecraft slip joint models I favor the ones with their nail nick further from the blade pivot. While he was still employed at SMKW designing their Rough Ryder Reserve knives on a few RRRs he positioned the nail nick in the middle his long swage making the nick shallow which made them harder to open for owners who did not have great finger nails. At least I have not seen that in Rosecrafts.

When Great Eastern Cutlery's large Coke bottle hit the the market hunters complained the blade was not safely held open by its relatively weak spring. The manager/designer's answer to that was he deliberately used soft springs so the knife would be easy for collectors to open. I'd rather my blade be firmly held open. I like Rosecrafts.

On the subject of blade pull strength, I have found that everybody has their own personal perspective on the subject.

For example, I bought a Viper Sowbelly a few years ago that was advertised as having a 6-7 out of 10 blade pull. I appreciated that the dealer put that in the description. When I got the knife, I thought it was a 10. I returned it to the dealer about 3 days after receiving it because I almost needed pliers to open the blade. The blade was pinchable but I still struggled to get it opened.

But in reading reviews and comments from owners of the same knife, I found that the majority of owners also considered the pull strength to be about 6-7 with a small minority considering it too strong to be usable like I did.

Maybe the pull varied from knife to knife but this is just one example. I have had the same experience with other brands and models.

Another example is a custom knife that I had made to my specifications. The maker told me up front that he intentionally makes his pulls 5-6 on a scale of 1-10. Nope. Not in my opinion. Again, the knife was pinchable but I still struggled to get it opened. I don’t think the maker lied to me. I think he just has a different perspective of pull strength than I do. I sold the knife and I noticed that the buyer also sold it shortly after but I don’t know why.

The only way to really find out if the pull is good for you personally is to either handle the knife first or buy it from a dealer that accepts returns.

Interesting tidbit of info. I have several score knives. The only two that I consider real nail breakers are a Rough Ryder Reserve and a Rosecraft. On both those knives the nail nick is pretty much the usual location.

Thanks for taking the time for such a thoughtful reply, MSJ.

I am sure you are right about that. But, when a man has over a hundred knives and finds that he needs a tool to open just two, that is a data point about the man and also a data point about the knives.

And thank you for your reply and examples.

Although when I decided to try RoseCraft you didn't have the one I chose in stock and I purchased direct, it was your information and kind response to my query about RoseCraft vs. Rough Ryder Reserve that led me to that purchase. I expected to get flamed when I posted my question, but you came through with a reasonable answer and a lot of RoseCraft knowledge.

Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with a somewhat clueless old man.
