Re: Any Train Enthusiasts Out There?
I did make it to Altoona on Thursday. Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific put on a great event, and everything was free. I was on the 2nd shuttle bus, and getting there early paid off. When I left it was getting hot and crowded. They were giving out huge pallets of chilled or room temperature water bottles.
It turned out to be a really nice day for railfanning.

I got razzed a little for my CSX hat, but they gave out free hats, handkerchiefs, tote bags, wooden train whistles and stickers.
I also toured the Railroaders Memorial Museum which was just several blocks up the street.

Great stuff, Johnny K, looks like a really perfect day. 4014 will be passing thru my area next weekend, still haven't decided where I will catch it, maybe a couple of different spots.......or maybe I'll just stay home and help my wife wash the windows.
That picture of you in the NS hat and kerchef may be my favorite of any I have ever seen on this thread.

Re: Any Train Enthusiasts Out There?
It was awesome. If you have a chance to see it, definitely do. Today was the Horseshoe Curve event and I saw some YouTube videos.
I would love to see the Big Boy next to WMSR 1309. I bet it's not significantly bigger.

Here's a Horseshoe Curve video from Nick. He has a great O gauge YouTube channel (NixCrossing) and works MoW for AMTRAK. He does a lot of railfanning in the Eastern PA area and is a great guy.

That's a good video, John. I'll check out some of his other work, thanks for showing.
Here is some info on the St Louis stop a week from today, if anyone is halfway close this will be a good one. I'm thinking I may hit Union Station and then head out to Pacific, Mo for that whistle stop.

Re: Any Train Enthusiasts Out There?
Back in my railroading days
we used one of these to move coal cars and polypropylene hopper cars.
Then we got modern and used one of these much more powerful example.

Re: Any Train Enthusiasts Out There?
Just a small comment from me, my son that lives just south of St. Louis is going to try to visit that day and get some pictures and send them to me. If he is able to get some good ones I will post them on here for you.
Also a friend on the CCC website took this picture in Palmyra, PA.

RR
Great video of the Horseshoe curve excitement.
BH
Thank you for sharing. Love too hear someone say back in the day, especially when it comes to Railroading.

Very nice pic of the BigBoy
Hopefully your son makes it for a track side seat. Any pictures too share are icing on the cake. It’s very cool when it blows by at speed.
Thank you all

Watching the Stooges episode, "A Pain in the Pullman", I sure hope that monkey doesn't escape from that satchel or he will cause all kinds of problems for the boys.......

I had not realized that Big Boy had come through my neck of the woods in 2021 & 2024.
This is a picture and a short video I found listed in the local paper. https://twitter.com/i/status/1426332178829426693

Re: Any Train Enthusiasts Out There?
Google says yes for 2 reasons:
1. Operational Base: The Union Pacific Steam Shop in Cheyenne is uniquely equipped with the heavy machinery and specialized crew required to maintain and operate the world's largest functioning steam locomotive.
2. Historical Significance: Big Boy locomotives were specifically built by the American Locomotive Company to haul freight over the steep mountain grades between Cheyenne and Ogden, Utah.

And then we wait.
Until the next tour De BigBoy. Hopefully it comes close enough that you get to experience the massive dinosaur that ran the rails.
