Good morning. Happy 250th 4th of July. It looks like a nice day brewing up here with a few clouds and 75 degrees for a high. It's 58 right now. I'm hoping to spend the day relaxing and recovering from a full week's work. I'm thinking a short bike ride might loosen up my achy legs and then maybe throw together a rhubarb/strawberry pie. That's about all I have on my plate for today. Have a good weekend and stay safe if you travel.____Dave

Good Mornin', Diners!
We are having a beautiful morning here at Starvation Plantation reflecting on the meaning of Independence Day. Our 200th celebration is still fresh in my mind, only seems like a few years ago not 50 years ago! Times have surely changed. It is impossible for me to comprehend folks living in our great country that have turned their backs on our country!
Going to lay low today, enjoy the day and watch some of the events on TV. Weather wise, laying low is probably good advice also, the heat index is supposed to be very high again. The old fellers used to say, "Be careful out there today, the bear is liable to get you." I remember as a kid finally figuring out what that meant.
Y'all enjoy our nations 250th birthday!

I was hoping by now I’d have more to show than the pictures below. My contractor has gone awol at least for this week. Hopefully they’ll roll in here Monday and get to work.

Happy Birthday America!
I am so grateful to be an American and to know all the great Americans on this website, God bless all of you.
I still remember the 200th celebration in 1976. I was in my dress white uniform on the flight deck of the
USS Constellation in San Diego, CA. and Cheryl was there with me wearing a bright green dress in a sea of
white uniforms. It was a televised broadcast on NBC with a USO Style program called "The Great American
Celebration." It was hosted by movie and child TV star Jackie Cooper (from the Our Gang show) and
singer/song writer Roger Miller. Also on the show was singer Dinah Shore, singer/actor Anson Williams,
singer/actor Jim Nabors, singing group the Lennon Sisters, singer/actor Burl Ives and comedian Scatman Crothers.
By the way, Jackie Cooper was a real Navy Captain in the reserves and was in his dress blues that night.
It also included TV coverage from the USS Constitution in Boston Harbor with Ed McMahon (the Tonight Show)
as the host. It was a great night of celebrating our country. We won't be doing any celebrating like that this
time but Cheryl and I are still very proud of our country and the military men and women that have sacrificed so much.

I pray that all of you have a very happy 4th of July with family and friends but I know that some of you have
suffered pain and loss recently and I hope you can still find some joy in the celebration today. God bless and
be safe today....

Morning folks, HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA and God bless us everyone.
67 the low heading to around 90, Nashville set a record high yestiddy at 101, I had 98 on my weather station. We had a nice pop-up shower late yestiddy, quarter of a inch in the gauge, for the first 15 minutes it was blowing so sideways the old gauge may have missed a drop or two. Wampus was on his throne keeping his feet dry, ate and went to the steps to preen.
Fixed the boss a big joe scramble this morning, bacon toast, fresh ripe maters, made some points maybe. The way I spend them I need all I can get.
We've had a young bear nosing around the area for about a month, so a bear getting you could be considered literally. I'm thinking he's heading back to east TN now. They've been visiting off and on about every year for several years now..
Greenbrier has the turning of the pig, a tradition that's over a hundred years old, the bar b cue used to be top notch, I ain't had any since my good buddy and neighbor was was the pit boss. He flat knowed his business.
I'll probably just cool my heels and watch the doings on TV. I don't need to get over heated in the big city although I still enjoy a good fireworks display.

Good Sunday Mornin', Folks!
73° this morning, clear skies with the moon straight up when I went outside. Used to hear the old timers say when the moon was "straight up", the deer would be up and moving. The opposite moon position called a "south moon" or "straight under" was also supposed to be good hunting or fishing. We all know the moon effects the tides, I don't think we pay attention to creation like our forefathers.
Lots of great patriotic things on TV yesterday. Thankfully the fireworks were at a minimum in our community, the mini-dachshund didn't hardly notice.
Church in a few hours, our pastor started a series of messages on the book of Ruth last week.
Sitting here with my coffee, watching the hummingbirds coming to the feeder, gives me a bittersweet feeling, remembering last summer's unfolding events. /

Love him or hate him, I think anyone would have to admit that Donald Trump knows how to put on a fireworks show. What I watched last night was without a doubt the biggest, most impressive fireworks display I have ever seen. The talking heads claimed there were over 850,000 individual fireworks set off during the show. I believe it!
We've got church in a couple of hours. I better get moving if I'm going.

Hit the ground running this morning about 5:30 a.m. fed wampus and the birds, fresh hummer sugar water and watered the plants, cook the boss another big joe scramble with bacon and maters on the side sure was tasty.
Got some roundup down in the driveway yestiddy, funny how flowers need water and weeds don't.

Mornin' Y'all

Weekend is over, back to the grind.
Had some storms come through yesterday afternoon, had my joints hurtin' and gave my poor wife
a nasty ol' headache. Needless to say, we just laid up for the day.

We've been running on the dry side now for a week, the drought continues. Noticed a corn field on the way to church yesterday morning that was "firing up", some of y'all know what that means. Local TV says it's raining in Panama City this morning, maybe we'll get some of the precipitation. Yesterday our weather station recorded 95°, it doesn't record the time of the high. After church I didn't go outside until around 6pm for our afternoon walk.This morning it's 75° and overcast.
Time to start on the grass again. It's amazing how much growth occurs even in dry times.
At 5:30am week days, there's a live outdoor program on a Panama City station called Panhandle Outdoors, this morning was an live interview with an old tugboat captain talking about his father running the river system from Appalatchicola north to Columbus, Georgia before the locks and dams were built. Very interesting!

Good morning. 56 degrees here under sunshine and we will be in the mid 80 later today They are telling us we will get about an inch of rain come Wednesday. I sure would love to get a few more retaining walls done before the rain moves sand where I don't want it, but that probably won't happen with my work schedule this week. I hate that the summer is half over already and I haven't had a chance to get much yard work done that I wanted to do before Winter stops my progress. I have barely touched my knives or any of my collections in months. It has been a cool summer, which I like and there have been no mosquitoes at all this year. I don't know what the birds or bats are eating. Even ticks are scarce this year. The only critters that seem to be everywhere this summer is chipmunks and songbirds and I don't remember a year when there were so many. We had a ton of grey and black squirrels earlier but the neighbor through the woods from us doesn't like squirrels and has pretty well gotten rid of all but a few reds. Well that's about all the rambling I have time for this morning. Have a good week and be cool and safe._____Dave

I’m tired!! The last of my company left at 6 AM this morning. First time in several years we were all together. Son & SIL got several little things done for me. Ate too much and tummy is in protest mode today. Found out grandson just got a new job, security at the Indian Motorcycle company.
But yesterday afternoon all the good stuff came to hard stop. Son went out to start his car to go fill up with gas and the battery warning light came on, hooked up charger, showed only 35% charged. So alternator wasn’t working. Called O’Reillys, they had it in stock and open till 6. Called a friend that does a lot of DIY mechanical work and just happens to own exactly the same model, 2007 Lexus RX350, he said he could change it. He started taking stuff apart and got to the point he couldn’t get the old one out and it was getting dark.
So decision was made that my son would take my Lexus for his 9 hour trip home this morning. Friend is confidant he can get it done so he will be back today. So, had to get the things I need out of mine and son got what he needed out of his.
Hopefully all ends well

No rain in the forecast until Thursday, have had 4 straight days of popup storms, a couple of nasty ones. I finished cleaning up the limbs this morning.
We did go for pizza Saturday evening and watched some fireworks in between storm activity.

Still hot and humid but have missed the severe weather that happened over much of the upper midwest

Boji, my wife likes to watch all of the "home" shows on the Magnolia network. Just now, she turned on the channel and this couple is renovating a place on Okoboji lake. I think I may have seen you in the background in one of the scenes.

Morning folks, 68 the low supposed to top out in the low 80's pop-ups could make an appearance. They missed us again yestiddy.
Kinda late to the table this morning, had breakfast with old work buddies at the Cracker Barrel. We've had three more pass in the last couple of months. Got a few more in bad shape. It our time in the barrel I reckon.
I got my roofing materials delivered this morning my guy will get started Wednesday weather permitting.
We got our watering done before I went to my get together.
I may spot mow some this afternoon if it don't rain.

Well, my contractor showed up this morning to get started on my garage project. He and his son worked a couple of hours removing part of the concrete where we park. After a couple of hours, the concrete saw went kaput. They said they were going to see if it could be repaired quickly, and if not, they would have to rent one to finish the sawing. That was going on three hours ago, so my guess is they won't be back today. They left their excavator so I know they will be back eventually.............and now we wait!
