Hot and humid continues here in Dixie, heat index near 110 today. Push mower parts came in yesterday,
need to get that done early. A trip to town and hopefully back under the a/c by noon.

Looking forward to the weekend I reckon. We'll go to the big firework show in town Friday evening.
Last night the boss mentioned a two hour road trip she wants to make Saturday to some 250 event
at University of Montevallo. Not really interested in the drive myself, but .. to keep the boss happy

Good morning. Hot and humid for us too. Not 110, but 90, and that is way above my comfort level. Yesterday's rain was steady and heavy at times and washed down a lot more of the sand around the addition we put on our house and the landscaping gets harder the longer we can't get to it. Today we are heading back up north to the small remodel job and should have that done today, and tomorrow we should be starting the Hickory floor that needs to be done this week but probably won't. I have no plans for the 4th celebration. We may spend it trying to get metal on our roof before storms mess us up. Have a good Tuesday and be cool._____Dave

.morning folks, 74 heading to the mid to upper 90's, 109 heat index. It was miserable yestiddy.
The boss and I drug the hoses at daybreak trying to beat the heat.
Wampus didn't really care for all the activities but came out and ate all of his wet grub left the dry for the birdies.
All the critters have plenty of suet, woodpecker cake and sugar water. Birdbaths filled so maybe we can all make it through this heat.
Hope yawl have a good'un and be careful out there. Don't forget to hydrate.

Well yesterday was interesting. After we got our bikes unracked and on the trail...my sister's bike lost a pedal. Threads on the crank were stripped. Messed around trying to fix it for a few minutes, then my wife found a nearby bike rental. They all went to go get that, just a mile or two away, and left the bikes parked in the parking lot. I stayed with my littlest son, and he and I rode up and down the trail within the vicinity of the bikes to burn time while they got the bike. I wanted to stay within sight of the rest of the bikes, but we put on 2.5 miles just waiting.

They arrived, we mounted up and headed out. As expected, it was 70⁰ with a cool and constant lake breeze. We stayed blanketed in thick fog all day. Two Rivers is a 5 mile ride. Very peaceful. The road is on your one side, which isn't great. But the other side is pure unadulterated creation. The waves were really banging. Slamming the coast with so much gusto that it was difficult to hear each other on the trail. Sometimes you would catch some spray all the way up on the trail. After we got to two rivers it was another mile into town for lunch at a local diner.

On the return trip, after less than a mile, my sons rear tire popped. Tried to patch it for him but it wouldn't hold. He limped it up to the next parking lot wayside. It was decided that I would unattach my tandem attachment and bike back solo to get the van.

First time I've biked without the encumbrance of another human being in years. I felt like the wind. Broke the 15mph trail speed limit for most of the 4 mile trip.

We rounded out the trip by playing down by the water. I imagine the water is somewhere around 60 degrees. Much too cold for this old man's old bones. But my boys hit the sand and instantly turn native. Took my pocket knives out for a picture or two and now they have sand in them and sound like hell when they open. Cool.

No great lake today to beat the heat. We'll probably stay inside. Have a good one my friends

Good Mornin', Folks.
It was 75° at 5:30, halfway pleasant, probably in the 90s by noon. Rain is supposed to begin around 3pm, maybe. One of the local weather reports mentioned that it was 24° some where in Wyoming yesterday.
Got caught up with all the mowing yesterday about 1:30. I went from perspiring to sweating yesterday! Fertilized Miss Joy's Satsuma orange tree yesterday afternoon, looks like we'll have some oranges around Thanksgiving. I remember when the tree first began to bear, she always made sure there would be enough oranges left on the tree for the grandsons to pick one or two. The last crop, 2024 she kept a count of the oranges as she shared them with so many people. She was at 800 when she quit keeping count. The snow in January of 2025 eliminated last year's crop.
Went to men's prayer meeting earlier, now enjoying a good cup of coffee. Seems like I'm always having to go to town, need to go to Tractor Supply and go by the bank. Last time at the bank I saw a notification that the drive up teller windows will be eliminated sometime in July. The girl in the widow said there is not enough traffic to keep it open. Times are sure changing, AT&T is discontinuing land line service, a bunch of us old timers have had the same home phone numbers for 50 years or more. It's only been the last few years that we have had reliable cell service inside the house, used to have to go out in the yard to find enough "bars" to make a call.
Just talked to oldest daughter, she said the grandsons were catching Snook in the surf yesterday. She said there is all kinds of construction going on down in that part of the state, mostly condos.

Good morning. 59 with rain coming in around noon and it shouldn't be as warm as yesterday. Yesterday was warm but not as bad as they were telling us. We are starting the Hickory floor today and they want us out around the beginning of next week. We made zero promises that we likely couldn't keep anyway, but we will give it a good try. Laying a solid wood floor is way more involved and difficult work that laminate flooring, but it sure is nice when it's done and as long as they don't leave the water on over the Winter with no one there for 5 months and the heat happens to go out, it should look good for many years. This is a seasonal cabin and when we service one of these, we shut off all the water and drain everything out. Sometimes they want heat left on and sometimes they don't and we winterize it and let it freeze up until Spring when we turn everything back on before they arrive. That's harder on a building. but was cheaper and much safer for the checkbook. Most local cabin owners live within a few hundred miles, but some, like the lady we are putting the floor in for, live way out of state, like California and use the cabin for a few weeks in the summer. Some people have way too much money and don't seem to mind taking chances. Some now monitor the cabin on the internet and call us when something appears wrong or if an alarm goes off. It's a different world than the one I grew up in. The bear that wandered through our yard a couple days ago was detected by our neighbor's camera and he texted us to let us know it was heading our way, so we all got up and watched him wander around our yard. He wasn't causing any harm and just snooped around and left. If he had tried to mess with my chicken coop or bird feeders, we'd have asked him to leave. I better stop yacking and get to work. 72° this morning, yesterday we got up to 92° with the "feel like" heat index at 112°.

The promised 3pm rain came around 8:30 last evening, a hard down pour for about 10 minutes.
Had a call from Dale (orvet) around 3 pm yesterday. He was checking on me and I found he was in the hospital with issues with his shoulder surgery back in May, y'all keep him in your prayers.
Going to try to lay low during the heat of the day, need to go up to the farm supply and get both diesel for the tractor and gas for the lawnmower. Was able to order the "deer proof" fence material, we'll see if it works in a few weeks, maybe.
Church tonight, life goes on.

Today’s cloudy weather brought some relief from the heat . Fishing has been a little more difficult with the heat . Heading back out in a few minutes. Been a relaxing week so far. No one here at the cabin and that’s unusual. The families will start showing up for the holiday today and tomorrow. Over 20 people. Will finish this cup of coffee and then get out on the water . Goodbye June. Hello July. Boys and girls, the word for today is HOT. We are under an Extreme Heat Warning here today. My weather app says the high today should hit 93 degrees.
The materials package for my garage is scheduled to be delivered later this morning. My builder is elsewhere so I'll have to show the driver where to dump the materials. I just hope the ground has dried up enough that he doesn't cut ruts.
Boss lady is heading out to take our son in law for an EEG. Our daughter is working and couldn't get free to take him to this appointment, so her mom is taking him. He's been having severe dizzy spells so he can't drive right now. He's had a battery of test and so far, they have not figured out what's causing his problem. He's been off work the better part of two months now and really needs to get back to a normal life.
In other news, Cleatus, my dog went back for a follow-up with the vet yesterday. The vet was very pleased with the progress he's made. He was very sick and I wasn't sure he'd ever bounce back but he has.

It's noontime neighbors, low was 71 It's 94 now feels 103, all I know is it's hot.
Wampus didn't show before I left this morning at 7a.m. had aearly appointment with my pcp.at the VA. I got a new one to break in. Seems like a nice young man even if he is a dern New York yankee.
I'm gonna sit here under the ac and read my Virgil flowers book.

Good morning. 67 going up to upper 80's with sunshine today. That's still too warm for this Northern boy. Yesterday was warm and muggy but we still got a good start on the hickory floor and I even got most of the laminate floor on our house done in the evening. I have a few edge pieces to cut and install and all of the cabinet base and base shoe to put down when I get time. Many of the cabin people are coming in for the 4th celebration so the lake road where we are working is getting busy. This summer was late at getting here but sure is flying by. Our seasonal summer is over one third gone. I got another phone call for a guy that wants a lot of work done this year if possible or next year if this summer doesn't work out. Sometimes I wish some of used to be my competition was still alive and working. I gotta run. Have a good Thursday and stay cool.____Dave

69°, clear, appears to be a beautiful summer day in the making. Yesterday's high was only 88°, that's still hot for us even though low to mid 90s are not unusual.
Did a bunch of inside house work yesterday along with receiving my weekly phone call from my old Marine buddy that has called me each Wednesday since Miss Joy died. I even did a bit of decorating for what Miss Joy called "patriotic season". Patriotic season was from Memorial Day through Veteran's Day, my only contribution was to provide a red knife, a white knife and a blue knife for her display. My efforts are a little late and aren't as extensive as she used to do but I did make a try.
Workday today, deer proof fence project is still on going, finally got the fencing material ordered, it's supposed to be at the Tractor Supply on the 4th. Maybe we'll get it done in time to plant the fall pumpkin patch. August 1st was the date we've always tried to have the seeds in the ground. That date is in line with the recommendations of the University of Florida planting guide.
Coffee's good, the hummingbirds are working the feeder this morning, time for breakfast and Bible reading.

We're once again under an extreme heat warning here on Stingy Creek. Temp is forecast to hit 93 later today, but with the high humidity, the heat index is expected to reach as high as 115 degrees. You can have my part of that! I'll be here inside celebrating yet another Willis Carrier Day. (Look him up, he's a true American hero!)
The lumber package for my garage was delivered yesterday. The driver couldn't make the turn onto the bridge at the end of my driveway and had to go back to the shop and rearrange the load on a smaller trailer. It ended up taking two loads instead of the original one load they shipped. I felt bad for the driver because he sure wasn't having fun trying to navigate in tight quarters, and doing it in yesterday's heat made it even harder on him. I'm sure he was greatly relieved when he was able to drop that second load of trusses and get the heck out of here.
Now we wait for the builder to make his appearance. I can't blame him if he puts it off till the heatwave passes.

Whoooeeee, just finished some early morning things outside and it is plenty warm already. At least I am off to a better start than yesterday morn when I stepped out into the garage and was greeted with a flat tire on my truck. The tire had a bone in it, I do my best to avoid roadkill when driving, but I evidently didn't miss all.
BH, that bear in Greenbrier was probably looking for the farmers market and some fresh blueberries......or maybe a Dairy Queen!
I got goose bumps last night from 68,000 people at Levis Stadium singing "Country Roads". America continues to put it's best foot forward during this World Cup.
Gotta mow today, put it off too long.

Good morning. Today should be pretty nice. Yesterday was brutal with the humidity. The hickory floor is going pretty well even after two of my old Porta Nailer flooring nailers stopped working correctly. I had one nematic one that works perfectly, and we had to make a quick trip the town and buy another nematic one and more nails. The old hand ones actually set the boards harder, and you get a tighter floor. The heat got to me a little yesterday and I wasn't watching my hydration closely enough. I still have no plans for the weekend except relaxing and resting, and maybe making a rhubarb pie from the huge patch of rhubarb growing in my backyard. Have a great 4th weekend,____Dave

73° this morning, summer continues. No rain again yesterday, even though our ponds are up, the fields are dry again. Takes a lot of rain to over such a drought as we're in. Drought doesn't seem to stem the growth of the grass in the yards. Sun is just now hitting the tops of the tall pines west of the house, always beautiful to see!
Workday didn't turn out like I had expected. The house got vacuumed and dusted but the outside work took another route. My helper got a text that a waterline on the side of his church was leaking and the water had been shut off. We decided to see if we could take care of the issue. Not a big deal, PVC repair. Had to dig it out and I we gathered up necessary pieces for repair from our shops, he had some couplings and I had a Dresser coupling and a can of glue in my shop refrigerator. The break was on the north side of the church house, in the shade. Tested the repair, left the hole open just in case.
Tractor Supply texted the deer fence had arrived, picked it up and made a stop at the post office.
This morning a "computer expert" that attends church with us is coming by to set up a new laptop the kids got me for Christmas. My old PC, windows 7, is not reliable for certain functions anymore. Old dog is having to learn some new tricks, the laptop is windows 11, I think.
Coffee is about gone, time to get early chores done before the "expert" arrives at 8.

Good morning . And a Happy Independence Day weekend to all . Came back home from Hayward area yesterday. Got out of there just in time . Going south on Hiway 53 was clear and hardly no traffic . The northbound traffic was almost bumper to bumper . Never seen so many campers and boats heading North on a holiday . Hope the resorts and businesses do well . The last year or two has not been good for the local economy. This should help . We did get into some fish and brother came up for the last day and we had a great visit. You all be safe out there , stay cool .

Morning folks, temperatures repeat, they say pop-up thunder bumpers. Phone radsr showed them all around the old homestead, they just faded away as they got near us.
Wampus was in attendance this morning.
We started watering at 5:30 a.m. I put his food out and drug the hosepipe up to the she shed and he acted like I was invading his domain.
Buddies day at Hooters need to put the rent check in the
bank and take the trash to the dump.
