Gerber Chief Blackfoot Dag

In 1939 Joseph Gerber (advertising agency owner) had custom knife maker David Murphy make 24 sets of carving knife for some of his select customers. Catalog retailer Abercrombie & Fitch saw them and was so impressed with the quality of the knives they wanted to sell them. Thus was born Gerber Legendary Blades.

Here’s a Gerber that’s seldom seen. Chief Blackfoot dag. Steel blade made to look like knapped flint and a synthetic Bear jaw handle. One year production came out after the movie “Dances with Wolves”. A tomahawk was also made but have never had chance to buy one.

Was not even considering what these blades were when I bid on them. Just came today and it then came to me these are Gerber Chief Blackfoot blades. Makes sense as the auction was in Oregon. Messed up and didn’t get the tomahawk blades on the same sale.
