The internet: a massive collection of good and bad information.

It took some searching but I finally found some good information on the Spey blade after sifting through way too much crap that made no sense.

You just need to put the word into the keyword Search here on AAPK. You’ll finds hundreds of posts with useful information. Like this for example

https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kn ... 82#p111082

https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kn ... ey#p585588.

“Search” works well for most anything you want to know about cutlery. For those not acquainted with it, you’ll find it in the drop-down menu under Quicklinks on the upper left of the posts. If you’re using a phone it’s the little three-line “hamburger” icon.

There's a river in Scotland called The Spey. The Spey region is a popular area for hunting and fishing. Some guide came up with a good blade shape for skinning (primarily) and processing game. It's called a Spey blade.

Why commonly found information doesn't make any sense;

Why would a blade used to spay be called a Spey?

Why would a farmer spay his female livestock? That's self-defeating and inhumane (Major and risky DIY surgery.).

If it's used to castrate it wouldn't be called a spay blade?!?!?! And definitely not a Spey blade.

Something interesting I discovered while pulling up the examples I gave. If you do a search for “Spey” (limited to topic titles) it finds two pages of posts that have “Spey” in the title. If you search for “spay” with an “a”, it finds only three posts. Using that as the criteria, it seems the “spey’s” (with an e) have it.

How or why cutlery catalogs have historically used one or the other description is a mystery I doubt we will solve. ::shrug:: Somewhere here on AAPK are posts debating the terms, (including the River Spey comments).
