Butcher knife identification request

Post by 3030remchesterCOLO »

Bring a history buff and knife nut, I see many photos of old west knives and their owners. It is amazing to me, how many had nothing more than a large butcher knife. Got me to stuying them. Very little is written about them. Made cheaply and in vast quantities. Studies seem to indicate that pre 1900 butcher and skinning knives did not have their scales attached with large brass . It's but instead with small pins. Green Rivers used 5 small pins as most makers did at the time. The below knife has no blade markings and 6 pins and an unreadable lable. Does anyone have insight?
