Unknown(to me anyway)bayonet..............

Hope someone can help me with the id of this bayonet.Given to my son recently.Looks WWII era but I'm not too savvy on military stuff.Tried to get good closeups of the markings.Any help greatly appreciated.

It looks like the standard issue Bayonet for the K-98 Mauser. It is in very good shape too. Mf'd in 43 looks like.

7540 was the serial number of the rifle it was to accompany.

All of the Military Mausers that I've ever fooled with (a few hundred at least) had EVERYTHING that went with a gun serial numbered. Even all the little working parts of the bolt had a portion of the gun number. They also had a cleaning rod issued with the gun, but it took two other cleaning rods to make a complete rod that would reach all the way down the barrel. Even those had serial numbers on them. The bayonet, it's sheath, the "frog" all bore the number as well.

Thanks for the info Wullie;it looks to be unused.When I removed it from the scabbard there was no evidence of scratching from the retaining spring and the wood scales are not nicked.He will be happy to hear what it is.His best friend is cleaning out his grandfather's house and has come across quite a few knives which he has mostly given to me.He refuses to take any money for them but I did give him a penny(as per tradition) for each one.I am also going to do some custom paint work on his truck when he paints it in the spring;he just doesn't know it yet.

About 8 years ago I bought some unused with matching numbered scabbards.

They were priced at $40.00 each.

D 114 45 is what the numbers are but the other stamps are too hard to read

nazi stamps on first blade shown...so manufactured between what...35 to 45?

shady dave...the bayonete you have also appears to have nazi acceptance stamps on it...

Thanks again mark. Also the stamps on mine seem to be a tad different unless when it was punched it was done a tad too hard. I will have to get better pics up asap!!

that is a nice site willie...good information...the germans were so anal about numbering everything that a person with some time could probably tell you who it was issued too, not just the unit. same on the uniforms and such...
