my KaBar is from China

I bought three ka-bar folding lock-back knives at the PX on MCAS Miramar when I was in San Diego and they all have Ka-Bar stamped on one side of the blade and China on the other side. Are these fakes? Any input would be appreciated.

Welcome to AAPK!
The cheap ones are made in China now days. If you pay a bit more, or better yet, read the labels before you buy, because I have been surprised how many things really are made in the USA and they are often less money than the China made junk and are better quality.
But, that being said, it seems most of the cheap knives are made in China now days.

At Miramar? Are you in the Corps? Are you an Airdale?
I was an Airdale myself. Spent some time at El Toro before going overseas. I got medevaced to Oak Knoll Naval Hosp. in Oakland in '72. Both El Toro and Oak Knoll are gone these days. Darn shame about El Toro, it was a nice base.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm a Retired Navy Chief, that was visiting San Diego. I spent most my time in the C-130 Community, delivering stuff for those guys on the ground with a real job (lol).

I heard that when Obama went to China they gave him a tour of the Country. The first stop was to show him where they kept all our money!!

I got three of them when I was there, I feel like I was ripped off! I thought it was just a good price since the they were on sale at the PX. Round File for these pieces of junk. Ka-Bar should be ashamed. Is anything still made in the U.S.A? Heck even my buddies Harley has tail lights from Mexico.

Canada does not deserve to be equated with China! We may all be in a global community, but China has a long way to go to be respected by me or anyone else.
I am a U.S. citizen living in Canada. Let's not forget that Canada is a loyal ally of the United States, and not only has it been doing a lot of the heavy lifting in Afghanistan, but percentagewise, has sacrificed more men! Same thing happened in WWII.
And they make good trucks up here!!

Ugh, Phil. In Canada, most folks don't call it Canadian Bacon. They call it Peameal Bacon. Learned that on vacation this fall. Always something new to learn in this old World.

Welcome aboard, Chief. Always nice to have a Squid around in case we need a ride someplace.

Don't throw them away. They make a nice little EDC you can loan to your wife, daughter or girlfriend to use as a screwdriver and not have to worry about the condition it's in when you get it back. Seriously though, I've bought a couple and the quality isn't bad. The idea of Made in China rankles but WTH, their bought and paid for now.

What bothers me about China made knives, is I feel it's such a waste of natural resources. Just like all the other cheap stuff in the US, Buy a good knife, lawn mower, tool set, flashlight, etc etc these high quality items last a long time, but when their made cheap they literally end up being junk WAY to soon. It also amazes me that we have grown men out their that, don't know what quality is. My Dad taught me these things, it seems like common sense but if you were never taught about metals, fabrication, craftsmanship, etc I guess you wouldn't know how to inspect for quality. I do think also Chinese made knives are sold sometimes in a very SHADY way. Like doing everything to look American but clearly not if you read the fine print. Some of these knives look just like their American competitors also, when clearly they are not and made substandard. American companies can't have a commercial that says "DONT BUY CHINESE STUFF!" but what they can do is have a campaign of doing what fathers I guess are not doing and teach folks what quality is.

Now days Name brands are everything, it used to be Quality and reputation. If I owned KABAR I would not let my name be used on something substandard, this would be bad for my companies reputation.

Note I think Taiwan makes some good blades, and we should not confuse the 2

My current experiences with KA-BAR and Becker knives are poor as all had metal malformations and the exchanged items came back defective also! Anything made for them currently can only get better as their USA quality control is bad. It seems American manufacturers are cutting too many corners on material quality and quality control.
