GOOD JOB! I'm always impressed at how the original colors come back after working on those Old Timer scales like yours.

The blades lock up very tight and really great snap (Walk 'n Talk) still in the blades.

Additional photo showing the nice dark patina on the springs giving it a nice contrast to the brass liners.

Yudi13,
Reading your posts and viewing the nice 285 UH caused me to look in my pile. The two I could get to easily, have the same dark patina on the springs. Not sure but I reckon the springs are not stainless steel as the plus symbol (+) on the tang stamp indicates Stainless blades. I have an old Case Trapper with stainless blades that has one stainless steel spring and the other is carbon steel. I noticed it years ago. Someone here on AAPK commented they used what was on hand at the time it was being put together.
Makes me wonder about the difference in the metals made into a springs?

That is a very appealing old knife. I always like those peach seed bone handles on Schrades of that era.
Very good photo!

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
I am not familiar with all Schrade Uncle Henry and Old Timer lines, any info on what other model with the same spring shape and size with the 285UH. I am pretty sure it must be another trapper model, but I don't know which one this carbon steel springs might come from.treefarmer wrote: ↑Mon May 18, 2026 3:08 amYudi13,

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
I checked the several Uncle Henry knives in my pile and they all appear to have carbon steel back springs. As for the trapper models the Old Timer and the UH are apparently identical in size, same brass frame, just different delrin handles and different steel in the blades. UH was just a gussied-up Old Timer.Yudi13 wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2026 9:38 amI am not familiar with all Schrade Uncle Henry and Old Timer lines, any info on what other model with the same spring shape and size with the 285UH. Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Very recently, this multi-tool, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife, arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. This pocket knife now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT buy the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. However, it did turn out to be a keeper. It did get added to my general, pocket knife accumulation. It is a SCHRADE, two blades, one tool (a file), one tang stamp, 2 7/8" closed (not including the bail), all metal, multi-tool, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "SCHRADE (over) WALDEN (over) N.Y. U.S.A." The main handle side says, “Lilly” (written). The other handle side has a symbol or logo for a medical field. The main blade does have a WEAK half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade does have a WEAK half stop. The secondary blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The tool opens and closes, with NO issues. This pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. This pocket knife did NOT need cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.
