Re: winchester year
I believe you have a frankenknife on your hands.
The handle looks 100% Japanese. I think someone put a Winchester blade on a Japanese knife.
Winchester made cutlery from 1920 to 1940.
There are many Winchester reproductions made in various decades and countries.

Your picture is out of focus to the extent I can’t really tell much about the knife, even when I try to enlarge it. Having said that, it probably won’t make much difference anyway, Unfortunately Winchester didn’t change their stamp from their earliest days until they ceased making cutlery, so about the best you can guess is 1920-1940. That’s assuming it’s an original Winchester - Winchester “reproductions” have been made by various makers for decades, all using that same stamp. You may know already but the Winchester brand name rights were retained by Olin Corporation, and they have continually licensed/authorized its use by third parties.
Sorry I can’t help you with more accurate info. I have some old Winchester catalog reprints, and if you'll tell us the closed length of the knife and post in-focus pictures I’ll see if I can identify the pattern number, if you want it.

Re: winchester year
Still didn’t tell the knife’s closed length, but it probably doesn’t matter. I have 53 pages of pictures of knives from old authentic Winchester catalogs. None of the knives shown have a dentate (match striker) pull. Also do not see any patterns having lined bolsters. My guess is your knife was not made by the Winchester cutlery. Still could be a post-1940 authorized “reproduction” made by someone else.
As a general rule, “read the knife, not the stamp”.

I agree but I think it is a complete fake. Based on the general appearance of the blade, and in particular the nail pull, I would say it is the original Japan blade but restamped.

My thoughts exactly. Does not look like an original Winchester knife. Jigging, shield, nail pull all look out of place for an old Winchester. The fact that the master blade opens past a flat 180 degrees with the backspring is another bad sign.American Blade 92 wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2026 4:59 pmI agree with you as wellknifeaholic wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2026 4:48 pmAmerican Blade 92 wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2026 4:49 pm I believe you have a frankenknife on your hands.
