Were Several Memorable - Made in Japan Knives of my Youth
Several knives owned in my youth and some were more significant than the others that were gifts or acquired on family trips to the swap meet - they were all gifts or bartered for in my youth - most of them gifts - being from a small town and regular Kmart shoppers as this is what our town gave us, Sharp being a major brand that Kmart carried, so it was naturally what everyone purchased, gifted, and owned - there was no online case xx factory only mail order catalogs where you could mail away for other major brands as such - our local Nipomo swap meets had merchants selling Pakistan, Taiwan, and Japan made knives by the tables - I have had many of each, but when it comes to Japan, these are what's remembered and cherished - Sharp 200, Christmas Present 1982 - 11 Tool Camping Knife, was a gift from dad and mom for taking on our summer vacations to the lake; was very excited when this was given to me - "needless to say" but saying it anyways - was a boy that slept, dreamed, and flipped through catalog upon catalogs through their pages on all things knives and BB guns - these all have a special place in my memories and fond ones.

Excellent post! That Super Fly rocks and although I don’t recognize the camp knife itself, the “sheath” for it looks uncannily familiar. I think I may have owned a camp knife with that same sheath when I was just a young boy.
Thanks for sharing these!

Pleasure was all mine - I've been living on memories for the past thirty years; they have carried me through and kept me going through some turbulent times, that's the power of love - never forget who you are and where you come from - "Betty Jean Valla"Railsplitter wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2026 2:41 am Excellent post! I have a few Japanese-made knives from my youth as well. Many of them are great knives. I especially love those Sharp brand knives!

Growing up on the farm in the 1960s, we made it into town about once a week. I would go into the hardware store that sold knives and drool over the merchandise in the display case. They had some very good brands of knives, but my budget slid down more to the prices of the Japanese imports. Here are 3 that I remember.
