It’s taken me almost 3 weeks to be able to read all of the posts on this thread. I am moved by all of the messages. I love my Dad very much and to see others had so much respect and love for him makes my heart smile. Thank you all for your memories and kind words. He loved AAPK and one of my “tasks on the grizzly list” (per Dad) was to login and let everyone know he passed. I didn’t have to do that because his buddies on this forum care. Thank you all.
Jerry Downen’s very proud daughter,
Jenni

We're all very sorry for your loss, Jenni. I'd like to thank you for reaching out to us. All too often, when a member passes, we rarely hear from family. We understand the reasons why, so we do appreciate hearing from our knife family members' families, as it allows them to live on a bit for us. We're all here for you, so if you have any questions about knives, or just need to vent, please do!jerryd6818 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2026 3:32 am Good Evening

May be gone but not forgotten, RIP Jerry.orvet wrote: ↑Mon Feb 09, 2026 8:55 pm There are many very wonderful things about being a long-time member of AAPK. But there is an occasional downside as well. Today is one such day as I say goodbye to a long-time personal friend and a great friend of AAPK, Jerry Downen, aka: jerryd6818.
A few minutes ago, I received a call from Jerry's daughter. She told me Jerry had passed away about 3:00 AM this morning. He had been in the hospital and was then on Hospice care for a few days. Jerry was a very active member of AAPK for 15 years and contributed a great deal to AAPK in his 39,415 posts!
I know Jerry will be missed by a lot of you here on the forum. He had a very eclectic taste in knives, but he liked anything with the Marine Corps emblem on it, including one or two that I made for him.
Jerry, my friend, I miss you! I will miss our talks on the phone discussing knives, the Marine Corps, and baseball, esp. your beloved Cubbies. I'm glad you we're able to see them win the World Series! I will miss you my friend. May God bless you and keep you and may you rest in peace. Semper Fi my brother!

Re: Sad Announcement
Well, I just saw this sad news. What a loss. Jerry and I shared a love of Camillus 72s and Schrade 863s. It is strange, but I have been carrying the same little Case 63090 everyday for the last 15 years, and a couple of weeks ago I suddenly decided it was time for a change. So I picked a nice old Camillus 72 out of the pile and have really enjoyed carrying one again. I guess Jerry was right.
Prayers to his family. He sure will be missed here at AAPK.

This is a huge loss for this community. I haven't been on here for a month or so, so this is the first I heard of it. My condolences and prayers go out to his family. Jerry, we're gonna miss you bud. We sure won't forget about you.

OMG......I am just seeing this now. So, so, so sad for me to know of this.
The man was so influential in my life. He sent me out first tent so I could take my grands camping 11 years ago.
He was a huge supporter of me.
I am saddened.
RIP my dear friend.

I have not been on here for awhile. I was shocked to read about Jerry. When I first joined he reached out and welcomed me to the site. So sad to hear of his passing. God bless Jerry and his family.

Re: Sad Announcement
I don't know the specifics Jenni, but it looks like a Camillus TL-29 Electrician's knife that has been modified, rehandled in micarta, and had two custom shields installed. I am guessing that it was a gift to your father.
Hopefully someone who knows more can see this post and give mire details.
I will try to research some old posts and see what I can find in the meantime.

Thank you!! I have so many knives to look through, it’s overwhelming. I’m not sure where to start when I get them all back home. I know I’m probably doing the forum thing wrong but this group is a wealth of knowledge.Reverand wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2026 2:52 am Found it!

Mystery solved!
Jenni, when it was posted 2 years ago that your father was moving, I posted he would need one of these just for his knives. https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kn ... y#p1144638
