Spring Cleaning and POS

The POS exchange has got me thinking about how many knives I have that I don't use or that don't excite me anymore--not just POS fodder but other stuff as well. I've read the responses to POS packages over the years, as well as the "Bomb's away" thread, and I realize that I really don't know most members' collection habits, desires, and wants. I haven't been around as long as a lot of folks here, and have only had (or made) the opportunity to meet one or two folks in person, so I'm sure that my understanding will continue to grow slowly over time.

In the meantime, my accumulation continues to grow more quickly, and I have a lot of stuff that I rarely look at anymore. If there are others who might really want some of it, I'd be glad to de-accumulate (if that's a word) over time as well, giving stuff to folks who might really benefit from it.

It also gets me to thinking that perhaps there are a lot of members out there like me, who aren't the most active on social media (which is what AAPK is, although a heck of a lot better than Farcebook!), so we don't really know what many of the other individual members like. The POS exchange is great for getting rid of some of those stinkers we don't have any use for, but many of us also try to throw in a few nice pieces that the recipient might like.

To that end, I wonder if there'd be interest in some kind of list or table of members' likes and dislikes, special interests (e.g. specific brands, specific configurations, handle materials, odd tang stamps & logos, etc.), that kind of thing. If I'm going to send something to someone out of the blue, I'd like to think that it's something that they'd want to have (POS exchange excepted).

So I thought I'd float the idea here and see if there's interest. Then, of course, there's the question of how to execute that if a lot of folks like the idea. I'm willing to help, but not knowing much about programming or websites (beyond as a user), interface don't know how much help I'd be.

Beresman I think you have a fabulous idea here. Knowing the likes and dislikes of members for gifting, etc I think would also strengthen the community as well. Hopefully some others will agree. I don’t have a lot to give right now as I do this all through the year to family and friends but what a great idea.

That might be the best way to do it. Part of me thinks it'd be great to have it be searchable (e.g. "I have this lovely Case trapper; who might like that?") but that's a lot more up-front work--both to set up and to administer on an ongoing basis. I feel Bryan has enough on his plate...

Instructions copied from the eBay sellers thread (thanks jerryd6818!)

1) Click on the quote button in the upper right corner of the current list.

2) Delete the first line of the post (the one with "quote" in it)
2.1) Delete the last line in the post (the one with "quote" in it)

3) In the top "Editing to add" line, delete that individual's name and insert your Forum name.

4) In the next line "Current list as of" change the date to the current date.

5) In alphabitical order, add your forum name and your particular interests (follow the format of all the other names on the list)

6) Click 'Preview' to check to see if it looks right.

7) Click Submit

Click on the exclamation button (upper right corner of the post) to report the previous list and put "Obsolete, please delete" in the comment section.

Reverand - Favorite patterns are Stockman, Trapper, and Barlow. Prefer bone handles or yellow plastic on any knife. I collect Boy Scout Knives and Sharp brand knives

Yeah, I thought about that but didn't come up with a good idea. I don't think we want addresses posted here for the public. I figured that, if nothing else, we could ask the recipient without telling *what* would be in the package. Not ideal, I realize, and I;'m open to other ideas.
