Re: Amber Across America (AAA) – A Fitting Tribute To Ivoryman
I received AMBER yesterday afternoon. It's sad Brian never saw this lovely creation he loved.
I kinda got a scare. I had gone to the mailbox about 30 minutes before she arrived and picked up a couple letters in it.I was looking at my emails a little later and saw one from USPS that alerted me that my package had arrived! I was a little distressed, but apparently the earlier mail I got was from the previous day.
I unloaded and put her in Bryon's slip and into my pocket. I took a couple of pictures of her packing, in case someone else is not familiar with these boxes. It took me a bit to open without destroying her traveling vehicle .
Here she is, out back on a beautiful WV afternoon.

Amber looks right at home in beautiful WV, Lyle
Looks like Kevin's efforts at patina on the coping blade are starting to show, as well, giving her a more balanced look and evidence of a well-loved knife. I would imagine cutting into a few pepperoni rolls might help that along nicely.
I think you're going to enjoy carrying Amber in the custom TCJR Leatherworks slip.....I never really used a pocket slip until I tried using one of Tom's creations, now I'm a fan of using a slip, especially when I carry one of my nicer knives.
As they are fond of saying in WV, "Let's Go!"

Re: Amber Across America (AAA) – A Fitting Tribute To Ivoryman
Glad to see she made it there safely, Lyle.
Hope you enjoy your time with her as much as I did. I do have a tendancy to go a little overboard with the packaging at times but definitely wanted to do my best to protect such valuable contents.
Appreciate the notice on the coping blade, Q!
I used one of BuckSharp Bryon's tried & true methods on my steak dinner a couple days before she left and started to get a little color on that blade. Hopefully, in time she will develop as beautiful a patina as the main. And like you, I have recently come to really appreciate the protection that comes with using my TCJr. custom slip.
Appreciate the notice on the coping blade, Q!

Looks like Amber is doing well with the patina. Thanks for showing us her in
the new WV territory.
We must be a really special group of enthusiasts to keep this thread going
as well as it has.
Blessed Easter to everyone. I hope Amber participates in a very good
Easter meal today.

I've had trouble posting.
We were downstairs Saturday doing some pre gardening.
I used her to repot a Purple Cherokee tomato plant that had outgrown its container.

Good to see you're getting Amber out regularly and keeping her busy. Lyle.
She sure is pretty and her blade action is perfect, isn't it?

It's been a while since I've checked in on Amber and I can see she's in good hands and being well used! Thanks for sharing the pics, Lyle. Looking forward to seeing more adventures in the Mountain State.
I’m a long time collector in search of rare and limited GEC AND Northwoods knives. Always looking to add ivory pieces to my collection. PM to discuss sales or trades, please!

Mostly using Amber as a letter opener.
In one picture I'm trimming a paper towel to fit a plastic bag, in which I add seeds to sprout on top of the refrigerator. It's dark and warm there.

More letter openings and trimming the bottom leaves from tomato plants, in order to plant them deeper.

Re: Amber Across America (AAA) – A Fitting Tribute To Ivoryman
I went to the courthouse yesterday and left Amber in the car. Although we park our car in the garage, it was cooler over the last night. I noticed how much tighter the knife fit in the leather slip upon retrieval this morning.
No pictures I have been continuing to open letters.

That confiscation at the court house was the my first thought.
Amber would never hurt anyone but gatherings in society by
humans is like the Wild West.
New handlers of Amber will have to consider these fails when
taking her out and about.

I've forgotten having my knife in my pocket before, they placed it in a safe and was returned to me upon leaving.
I didn't want to take any chances with Amber.
She's been a good package opener. (Stakes to hold my tomato cages upright.)

Parting shots.
I tried to duplicate unsuccessfully Tom's pictures. Also she is opening her last job here , a package of mailing labels.
It was a privilege to participate in this memorial. I've done what I could to be engaged. Good luck Tony, she's a little duller than when she arrived in WV .

Very nice, Lyle. Your efforts at engagement demonstrated through your care and stewardship of Amber are very much appreciated as are all the photos you posted, through which the entire AAPK membership is able to share in the experience and likewise remain engagedwlf wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2026 11:14 pm Parting shots.
