Dimitri, the earliest year that is actually on a "W & H" pocket knife itself is 1923.
The latest year that is actually on a "W & H" pocket knife itself is 1930.
I'm pretty sure that the 1930 pocket knife was actually made prior to 1930.
In fact, 1928 is the only year NOT actually on a "W & H" pocket knife (so far).
The years that are actually on a "W & H" pocket knife are:
1923, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927, 1929 & 1930.

Recently, my trip to the post office produced this advertising pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a "W & H", one blade, one tang stamp, 2 7/32" closed, all metal, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It has the curved or arched style of tang stamp, WITH the "USA" in the middle. The tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO (over) USA (over) NEWARK NJ" The main handle side says, "YOUR HOME BANK - HAZELWOOD SAVINGS & TRUST CO. - PITTSBURGH, PA." The other handle side says, "SILVER ANNIVERSARY - 1901-1926 - 25 YEARS OF SAFE BANKING" This is my first "W & H" fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife, that advertises this particular company, event, organization, business, product, etc. The main blade does NOT have a half stop. The main blade does NOT have an opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. This pocket knife is in FAIR condition. This pocket knife did not need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off.
I took some pictures and here it is.

***** TRIVIA *****
Just doing a basic, simple, Google search, produced VERY LITTLE information on, and EVEN FEWER items pertaining to, the Hazelwood Savings & Trust Co., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The following information is per ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE or AI. I do NOT know how accurate the following information is. But, since almost no information is available.....well here it is.
"Hazelwood Savings & Trust Co. was a prominent financial institution in the Hazelwood neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA, established in the early 20th century to serve local residents and industrial workers. The bank was active by 1905, often advertising 4% interest loans and operating as a key community hub until it was later acquired, with its historic building eventually becoming a focal point for redevelopment initiatives.
Operation: The bank was active in the early 1900s, with records indicating operations as early as 1905. It served the working-class community, which was deeply tied to the nearby Eliza Steel Plant and other industrial sites.
Significance: It was a trusted local institution, with advertisements from 1930 showing it offered 4% interest on loans, and records from 1934 showing it handled local community club funds (like Christmas savings).
Building History: The Hazelwood Savings & Trust building was a known landmark, and in 1921, it provided space for other community organizations, such as the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Legacy: The building, located in the 15th ward, is now considered a piece of local history, with the Hazelwood Initiative exploring its reuse for community development, such as artist spaces, small business incubators, or a bookstore.
The institution operated within a neighborhood that was historically known as "Scotch Bottom" and became a vital part of the Hazelwood business district during the height of the steel industry."

A few days ago, my visit to the post office produced this advertising pocket knife. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the most recent example to be added to my collection. It is a W & H, one blade, one tang stamp, 2 1/2" closed (NOT including the loop or ring), all metal, advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. The tang stamp is the curved or arched style, WITH the USA in the center. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO (over) USA (over) NEWARK, NJ" The main handle side says, "San Marto - COFFEE" The other handle side only says "PAT. PEND.", just above the blade pivot pin. This is my seventh, W & H, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife, that advertises this particular product, business, company, event, etc. My other six, San Marto Coffee pocket knives, have ALL been previously posted, under this topic or thread. The main blade does have a SOFT half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Recently, my trip to the post office produced this advertising pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a W & H, two blades, two tang stamps, one spring, 3 5/16" closed, advertising, pocket knife. Both tang stamps are the curved or arched style, WITHOUT the USA in the center. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO (over) NEWARK, N.J." The secondary blade front tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO (over) NEWARK, N.J." The main handle side says, "EX-LAX - GIVES THE DRUGGIST A LIVING PROFIT." The other handle side says, "EX-LAX - A FRIEND IN NEED." It also has images or graphics of two tins or containers. This is my sixth W & H pocket knife that advertises this particular product. My other five EX-LAX pocket knives, have ALL been previously posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. The main blade does have a GOOD half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD half stop. The secondary blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD closing snap. This pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. This pocket knife is NOT showing any signs of outgassing at this time, but I did quarantine it after I took the pictures posted below. This pocket knife did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Recently, my visit to the post office produced this advertising pocket knife. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the most recent example to be added to my collection. It is a W & H, one (broken) main blade, one (broken) secondary blade/tool (a cap lifter or bottle opener), one main blade tang stamp, two secondary blade/tool stamps, 3 7/16" closed, a long main blade pull, one spring, all metal, advertising, pocket knife. The (broken) main blade front tang stamp, is the curved or arched style, WITHOUT the "USA" in the center. The (broken) main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W. & H. CO. (over) USA (over) NEWARK, N.J." The (broken) secondary blade/tool front stamp (BLOCK STYLE) says, "PATENTED (over) MAY 18, 1909" The (broken) secondary blade/tool back stamp (BLOCK STYLE) says, "THE (over) W. & H. CO." The left side of the main handle side has a circle inside a circle logo. The inner circle has a star with red enamel. The outer circle says, "SAN FRANCISCO AND PORTLAND S. S. CO." There are also three ships depicted. The right side of the main handle side says, "THE BIG (over) 3" The left side of the other handle side says, "THE BIG (over) 3" The center of the other side says, "BEAR - BEAVER - ROSE CITY - OPERATING BETWEEN LOS ANGELES-SAN FRANCISCO-PORTLAND - SAN FRANCISCO & PORTLAND STEAMSHIP CO. - A.G.O.KERRELL.G.P.A. -------- A.OTTINGER,GEN.AGENT." The right side of the other handle side says, "THE BIG (over) 3" This is my first, "W & H" pocket knife, that advertises this particular company, business, organization, product, holiday, event, etc. The main blade (broken) does have a CRISP half stop. The main blade (broken) does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The main blade (broken) does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade/tool (broken) does have a GOOD half stop. The secondary blade/tool (broken) does have a GOOD opening snap. The secondary blade/tool (broken) does have a GOOD closing snap. Even with the broken blade and the broken blade/tool, this pocket knife is still in FAIR condition. This pocket knife will serve VERY NICELY as a filler, until I hopefully track down AND obtain another, intact one. This pocket knife did require a little bit of cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Doing just a simple, basic, Google search, produced a TON of information and a TON of items pertaining to the SAN FRANCISCO & PORTLAND STEAMSHIP COMPANY, along with the three ships, the "BEAR", the "BEAVER" & the "ROSE CITY."
The following is just a VERY, VERY SMALL, bit of information.
The following text is from a booklet issued by the Union Pacific System in 1915 titled "California and the Expositions":
"... the San Francisco & Portland Steamship Company (Union Pacific System) ... operates a fleet of three large, modern steel steamers, with every appointment for comfort, and wireless telegraph and submarine signal equipment for safety. They are appropriately named the "Bear," for California; the "Beaver," in honor of Oregon, and the "Rose City," for the city of Portland.
Sailing out from the Golden Gate, past Mount Tamalpais, and the Farallones, and Drake's Bay (where, in 1579, was held the first Christian service on the shores of the Pacific), the Coast Range unfolds an ever-changing panorama. The first stop is at Astoria, at the mouth of the Columbia River, and there is not a more charming water trip on the continent than the 100 mile voyage up the Columbia between this point and Portland. On a clear day, at the junction of the Willamette and Columbia, five snow-capped mountain peaks are clearly visible - St. Helens, Jefferson, Adams, Rainier-Tacoma and Hood. This company operates its fleet also as far south as Los Angeles (San Pedro)".
**********************************************************************************************************************************************************
The "Rose City" (336 ft. long) was built in 1889. The Inter-Island Steamship Co bought her in 1920. The Los Angeles Steamship Co bought her in 1923 and renamed her "Waimea." From then she ran between San Francisco and San Diego via Los Angeles until 1931. She was eventually sold, and in 1933 she was scrapped. The "Bear" and the "Beaver" (4,507 grt, 380 ft. long) were built in 1910. The Bear was wrecked in 1916, while her sister was taken over by the U.S. Navy in 1918 and converted to a submarine tender. She served until 1946 and was scrapped four years later.

Re: THE W & H CO + USA + NEWARK NJ = Whitehead & Hoag.
This past December (2025), a trip to the post office produced this multi-tool, advertising pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also, at the time, became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a W & H, one main blade, one secondary blade/tool (a cap lifter or bottle opener), one main blade tang stamp, two secondary blade/tool stamps, 3 7/16" closed, a long main blade pull, one spring, all metal, multi-tool, advertising, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp, is the curved or arched style, WITHOUT the "USA" in the center. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO. (over) NEWARK, N.J." The secondary blade/tool front stamp (BLOCK STYLE) says, "PATENTED (over) MAY 18, 1909" The secondary blade/tool back stamp (BLOCK STYLE) says, "THE (over) W. & H. CO." The main handle side says, "BPOE" (the letters are interlocked). Along with some floral images, there are also two, ELKS CLUB symbols. On the left side, a clock with a star on top. On the right side, an elk's head. The other handle side says, "SOUVENIR - BLUEFIELD LODGE NO.269 B.P.O.ELKS, - REUNION ASSOCIATION OF WEST VIRGINIA, SEPT. 12-13-14. BLUEFIELD, W. VA." This is my second, "W & H" pocket knife, that advertises this particular organization, company, business, product, holiday, event, etc. However, both B.P.O.E. pocket knives are completely different. Besides the handles and the advertising, my other B.P.O.E. pocket knife is a whittler, pattern or style of pocket knife, with a "split spring" (I KNOW THAT IT’S NOT A TRUE SPLIT SPRING). It was posted under this topic or thread, back on October 6, 2023. This is my fourth, "W & H" stamped, multi-tool pocket knife, in THIS particular pattern or style, WITH the MAY 18, 1909 patent date. The main blade does have a GOOD half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade/tool does have a GOOD half stop. The secondary blade/tool does have a GOOD opening snap. The secondary blade/tool does have a GOOD closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. This pocket knife did NOT need cleaning at all. I just wiped it off.

Doing Just A Simple, Basic, Google Search, Produced A TON Of Information And A TON Of Items Pertaining To The B.P.O.E. I Could NOT Find Any Information Regarding The Conference Or Convention Advertised On The Pocket Knife. The Year Of The Event Is NOT On The Pocket Knife, And I Definitely Wanted To Know What The Year Was. I Did Find One Item That Was From The Same B.P.O.E. Event. The Event, The Lodge Number, The Dates, And The Location, All Matched Up. The Year Of The Event Was 1916.

Back on Friday, October 10, 2025, I posted a UNITED MINE WORKERS OF AMERICA pocket knife.
The following is an error in, and the correction for, my description of that pocket knife.

The Very Last Pictured Posted Below Shows An Ad For The Whitehead & Hoag Company. The Ad Is From A 1912, Whitehead & Hoag Catalog That I Found On-Line. This Is Only The Second Time That I've Seen A Pocket Knife Pictured Or Illustrated, In ANY Whitehead & Hoag Catalog Or Ad, That I've Looked At. I Wasn't Even Sure That THIS Pocket Knife, In THIS Ad, Actually Existed.....I'm Sure It Exists Now.
I'm 99.999% Certain That VALLEY FORGE CUTLERY COMPANY Made, OR Participated In, The Making Of This Pocket Knife.

Re: THE W & H CO + USA + NEWARK NJ = Whitehead & Hoag.
From my post on Sunday, April 26, 2026:
A couple of days ago, my visit to the post office produced this advertising pocket knife. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the most recent example to be added to my collection. It is a W & H, one blade, one secondary blade/tool (a cap lifter or bottle opener), one main blade tang stamp, two secondary blade/tool stamps, 3 7/16" closed, a long main blade pull, one spring, all metal, advertising, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp, is the curved or arched style, WITHOUT the "USA" in the center. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W. & H. CO. (over) USA (over) NEWARK, N.J." The secondary blade/tool front stamp (BLOCK STYLE) says, "PATENTED (over) MAY 18, 1909" The secondary blade/tool back stamp (BLOCK STYLE) says, "THE (over) W. - A.G.D.KERRELL.G.P.A. -------- A.OTTINGER,GEN.AGENT." The right side of the other handle side says, "THE BIG (over) 3" This is my second, "W & H" pocket knife, that advertises this particular company, business, organization, product, holiday, event, etc. The main blade does have a GOOD half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. The secondary blade/tool does have a GOOD half stop. The secondary blade/tool does have a GOOD opening snap. The secondary blade/tool does NOT have a closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Well…..…..This pocket knife will serve VERY NICELY as a filler, until I hopefully track down AND obtain another, intact one…..

Re: THE W & H CO + USA + NEWARK NJ = Whitehead & Hoag.
Recently, my trip to the post office produced this advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to join this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a "W & H", one blade, one tang stamp, 2 7/32" closed, all metal, advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. The tang stamp is the curved or arched style, WITH the "USA" in the center. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO (over) USA (over) NEWARK NJ" The main handle side says, "ANACONDA COPPER - MINING COMPANY-REFRACTORIES - ANACONDA, MONTANA” The other handle side says, "BRICK-TILE" This is my second "W & H", fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife, advertising this particular company, business, event, organization, product, etc. The main blade does NOT have a half stop. The main blade does NOT have an opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did not need cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.
