Re: Knife Photography
There's a story in that. Sasquatch was my handle on the CB radio years ago, it was kinda' unique. Then, as time wen on, everybody and their brother was using Sasquatch and Bigfoot as nicknames, CB handles, screen names etc. When I started using the internet I used it as my screen name for sites that require one and I started getting the message that the name was already used. So I dropped the "T" and voila , I was unique again.

Re: Knife Photography
Mahalo, Tony
And likewise for me with your photography. Looking at the photos in this thread gives me ideas for shots to try with my own knives. In fact, even though the knife isn't perfectly in sharp focus in your yellow Sodbuster with the lake background pic, it was the inspiration for many attempts to take a similar shot of my own with both the knife and distant background in close enough focus so as not to have one or the other so blurry they were indistinguishable and unpleasant to look at. Yours is about the best I've seen so far, but I keep trying (and failing
).
This is my latest attempt.....background is crisp and in focus, but my knife looks like it is in the process of being beamed up by Scotty

Re: Knife Photography
I find it very difficult to get my phone cam to focus well on shots like that. I want the background and the subject to both be in clear focus but it always seems to be a trade off. I shot a batch of photos yesterday on our walk with my Ivoryman Schrade. I placed the knife on the stub of a broken limb about shoulder high off the ground and tight to the tree trunk. I tried to shoot with the knife and cool bark pattern in the foreground and catch the lush green foliage awakening in the background. None of those pics were worth posting. The foreground was blurred in every one no matter what angle I shot from. Thanks to digital photography I can use a "spray and pray" method. I soot a large number of pics and hope one of them will be the bomb. In this case the best I got was a fizzle. Back to the drawing board.QTCut5 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2026 2:08 pm Mahalo, Tony![]()

One of my favorite pics because it was taken while we were up on a mountain hiking the Appalachian Trail.
