Welcome to the December 1, 2009 Johnnie Fain Estate knife auctions. If my health holds out I hope to do two auctions in the next two a one half weeks, so that the knives can be shipped before Christmas.
Johnnie was a friend of all on AAPK as well as an AAPK Moderator. Johnnie passed away unexpectedly in April of this year. I am helping Johnnie’s widow Annettee by auctioning off many knives from Johnnie’s collection. AAPK members have been most generous in helping Annettee by bidding liberally in these auctions. Any member of AAPK can bid on these knives.
This auction is for a Chris Wolf knife.
MAKER: Chris Wolf
PATTERN: Jack knife
BLADE: Modified spear blade
CLOSED LENGTH: 4-1/4 inches
HANDLES: Wood
BLADE TANG STAMP: Chris Wolf
CONDITION: Used in good condition.
DAMAGE: Some dings and loss of wood on the bottom of both handles. Some scratches and pitting on bolsters.
AGE: Unknown
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA
BLADE WEAR: Blade appears full.
SNAP: Snap is extremely hard. Knife is difficult to open.
ADDITIONAL INFO: I don't know all the history behind this knife. I'm sure some of our members do know the history. Please feel free to post it. This is the hardest snapping knife I have ever seen.
This auction will end at 6 PM, Pacific Standard Time, Sunday December 6, 2009 if there have been no bids within 2 hours of that time. If there have been bids, the auction will continue until such time as there are no bids for 2 consecutive hours.
At that time the high bidder will be declared the winner.
Payment is to be by money order. Upon receipt of payment the knife will be shipped.
The payment price will be the winning bid plus $9.00 for shipping via Priority Mail with insurance and delivery confirmation. Combined shipping if you win more than one item.
The knife will be well packaged to prevent damage.
Feel free to PM or email me with any questions.
Thank you and happy bidding,
Dale
NOTE: I will combine shipping for those who win more than one item.

Below is a link to the thread where Johnnie posted a picture of this same knife (at the bottom of page one) and then (on page two) answers a question relating to the age of the knife.
Just in case anyone is interested............
And while I'm here I'll raise the bid to $50

Phil, How can you remember old posts like that? Do you have some secret way of searching for them? I have Johnnie's Levine's Guide and it says that Chris Wolf was foreman for Schatt Morgan in Titusville. It confirms Johnnie's estimate of ca1920 or maybe Johnnie consulted the Levine's before he made the post.
I bid $80. since Johnnie said that's what he paid for it. Annette should at least get her money back.

My memory is far from perfect, but I did recall seeing that knife before on AAPK. It is a bit out of the ordinary so it stood out. Armed with the knowledge I had seen it previously, I simply used the search feature at the top of the page, typing in "Chris Wolfe" and then let the computer hunt for it. There were only a few listings containing that key phrase so I had no trouble locating that post from there.
If I knew anything about Johnnie Fain it was that he was meticulous in his research, and I can pretty well guarantee you he looked that knife up prior to posting about it. I too have a few of Johnnie's knife books and they have been well cared for, but also well used.
Congratulations on winning this auction. And thanks for supporting Johnnie's widow with your bids.
