Valor Japan Hi-Stainless 4000314 Knife with Stones in Handle

Post by RoadWarrior2 »

Hi:

My late father in law collected knives. I'm going through his collection and have run across a Valor Hi-Stainless 4000314 knife I can't find any information on. I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what it is.

The knife is a brand new late 1970s to early 1980s Valor 4000314 that has what appear to be stones inlaid in the handle. I say appear to be stones because I can't tell if they're stone, plastic, or something else. Regardless, there are 5 different ones and they look like Mother of Pearl, Black Onyx, Alabaster, Agate and Turquoise. They are cut in small triangle shapes to form an interesting pattern.

I've searched the internet and can find information on Valor 4000314s with wood in the handle, but I can't find information this one. Can anyone tell me anything about it and, if possible, give me an approximate value?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

I've not seen another with a stone inlay like yours, only wood and imitation pearl. I would guess that the stone work is an aftermarket modification. It looks well done. It's not a particularly valuable knife or brand, but I would say the stonework adds to the value. With the usual wood that's a 20-30 dollar knife maybe a bit more if it has the box, maybe 50-60 with the stone work.

I don't have any primary source information for you, this info is just from my own collecting experience, and the value is based on what I have paid for similar knives, and what I, as a collector of the brand, would be willing to pay if i was looking at that particular knife.

That's my Etsy store where I sell old knives and sometimes handmade knife accessories to support my knife habbit. Thanks for looking my friend. ::tu::

I deeply appreciate your reply. My late father in law usually bought his knives from retails stores so I hadn't considered it might be a custom knife. I also appreciate the price range information.

Thanks so much for helping me out!
