Oooohhh, I like that one.....beautiful Crimson Bone diamond shield Seahorse Whittler, Kerry I have a thing for certain shields.....mainly diamond and arrowhead shields.

At first glance and/or to the untrained eye my WW submission for today may look like one of the Case Classic Honey Bone Wharncliffe Whittlers in the set of three that I already posted a bit earlier. However, this is actually an orphan that I have not sold yet--although I probably will very soon (contact me if interested, good deals given to my fellow Wharn heads ).

Between Kevin & Kerry, there seems to be a bit of a Seahorse theme in today's WW. All too often, the Case Classics Wharncliffe Whittlers like the ones I'm showing today are erroneously called "Seahorse Whittlers" because they look a lot like a Case Seahorse (again, at first glance and/or to the untrained eye) and they have a similar pattern number (63055 and 630055) to a Seahorse (6355). Unlike the iconic Case Seahorse, however, which, among other differences, was actually made by Case in the Case factory, the Case Classic Wharncliffe Whittlers were contracted out to Queen and made in the Queen factory. It used to bother me that a knife made by one company would have a different, competing knife company's name on it, but after I discovered how widespread the practice was and how long it's been going on among virtually every knife company, eventually I got used to it and it ceased to seem strange.

Charlie - nice Queen. Too bad about getting hooked, but look at the positive. You like photography and Wharncliffes make very good subjects.

Jtx - that Malibu looks very tactical.

Kevin - those Mammoth Ivory Seahorse knives are beauties for sure!

Once again I found myself sifting through stuff I had pretty much forgotten about, looking for a Wharncliffe: and once again I found one. This is an unbranded knife: possibly reprofiled, but I do not think so. A tiny knife: 2.5 inches closed.

It used to bother me that a knife made by one company would have a different, competing knife company's name on it, but after I discovered how widespread the practice was and how long it's been going on among virtually every knife company, eventually I got used to it and it ceased to seem strange.

I agree with your sentiments completely. It is funny how Case Classics were never made by Case.

I have a really nice Schrade 85th Anniversary Whittler that was actually made by Camillus, along with several other Schrade Whittlers that I own. I understand farming out production to other companies. But it still strikes me as strange to have another company make a knife commemorating your own company's knife making?

By the way, that last Case Classic is another very nice knife.

Well, looks like I'm hooked. Here is the latest of my Wharncliffe acquisitions.

A Queen USA 84 pattern. It's not Titusville but very well made.

A whole new, fascinating, exciting world of knives suddenly opens up once you've been bitten by the Wharncliffe bug!
I like the burlap micarta, Squach (my Queen 84 pattern that I posted last week has carbon fiber scales).

Pro-Tech Malibu

Very sleek, elegant auto, Jtx I had a Pro-Tech Malibu with a different type of blade once, if it had had a cool Wharncliffe blade like yours I would have hung onto it.

Here are a couple Mammoth Ivory Seahorse Whittlers. The top on was rehandled by our very own "BIGHEAD" Barry and the other is factory Mammoth.

Once again I found myself sifting through stuff I had pretty much forgotten about, looking for a Wharncliffe: and once again I found one. This is an unbranded knife: possibly reprofiled, but I do not think so. A tiny knife: 2.5 inches closed.

You're going to need a crowbar soon, Mel, so you can pry up the floorboards looking for more of the Wharnies you have squirreled away in your home

Sweet little MOP knife....I agree, the main blade does not look reprofiled to me either.....looks to be an original Wharncliffe with a nice patina. Kind of reminds me of a Case Baby Copperhead 62109W like this one (archive pics)

Thanks, Mel! I don't know much about the ol' Sea Cow, but found a couple different references of them when I got the knife a while back.

I have seen a few custom & customized knives with Sea Cow Bone handles, but they are pretty scarce. I did a Google search for Sea Cow Bone knives and didn't find many examples.

We have a species of Sea Cow here along the Gulf Coast, the Manatee, but I have never heard of anyone using the bones for handles. I will have to keep an eye out for them.

This is one that I snagged at the flea market this past week end. It was the only Wharncliffe I found there. I don't normally shop for Rough Rider knives and only have a couple but this one at 12 bucks didn't get passed by.

I was "gifted" this nice Rough Ryder whittler by cody6268 in this years POS exchange, that has a neat Wharncliffe master blade. Thanks Cody!!

Almost all of my Wharncliffe knives are either single blade or the Wharncliffe is the main blade. However, I also have some multi-blade knives with Wharncliffe secondaries. The now famous Lansky1 patented "Ratcliffe" is a prime example of this less-common configuration. Here is a Ratcliffe variation (also a Lansky1 mod) from my archive dubbed "TyrannoRatcliffe Rex" because of its aggressive toothy serrations.
