KMFS Vantaedge Sharpener Review

Just to start thing's off I'm new to this forum but by no means new to knives or knife sharpening and I like using guided systems and I have been sharpening for 30 to 35 years now.

Also to be clear I purchased the KMFS Vantaedge that I'm reviewing and I'm getting nothing from KMFS for doing this review,I just wanted to share this great sharpener with you guys.

I had been using a TSProf K03 and it is a good sharpening and I had it when it came out pretty much right away but I have gotten tired of how big it is and I don't ave a spot to leave it set up but the biggest thing is that I'm tired of is uneven bevels and also sometimes depending on the knife it completely miss's a section on a curved blade.

I seen the video in the link below about 2 years ago and thought the KMFS Vantaedge is a really great system and it looks like it really fix's the uneven bevel problem and it also solves another mega pet peeve of mine the angle cube and always having to check angle and compensate for different stone thickness's,with the KMFS Vantaedge you just throw a new stone in and go and don't worry about anything because it automatically compensates for different stone thickness's.

If you watch the video below and watch it at the 4:19 point and watch the rod that goes threw the rear of the sharpener and watch when the rod goes up and down that the sharpener automatically compensating for the angle change when sharpening around a curve in a blade.

I also ordered a Hover Spring kit and what that does it lifts the rod that intersects with the guide rods up when it dip's down,if the Hover Spring isn't used you need to press down harder to make the stone sit flat on the edge and the tends to want to left up and roll over onto the edge of the stone,but with the Hover Spring which is only 10 dollars it fix's those problems 100% and you'll never even notice them again.

I also ordered a Multiangle Head for my sharpener as well because the stock unit only has 15 17.5 20 and 22.5 degree's and Multiangle Head can go from 10 to 29 degee's.

The clamp's on the Vantaedge work very very well and there's no need for cranking down on the screws really hard and they hold a Manix 2 just fine,they also use 2 plain unthreaded cones and 2 threaded cones that a 5mm flat head hex screw goes into to pull the clamps together.

I also found that the clamps hold pocket and kitchen knives very well and the Vantaedge can handle pocket and kitchen knives both very well.

The system also come with 3 diamond stones and are 240 600 and 1000,I couldn't get a sharp edge off them but the 240 did remove metal fairly fast and I think you may get 50 70 reprofiles out of it if you don't use to much pressure.

After getting the Vantaedge I started to enjoy sharpening again because it's much faster from what I find and I don't need as much stuff to sharpen with anymore,I'm 99% certain that my TSProf is getting sold I enjoy the Vantaedge that much.

This is the stock head that comes with te kit for selecting angles.

This is the Multiangle Head that allows for more sharpening angles and I really like it a lot,the stock unit also works perfectly fine and there's nothing wrong with it at all it just doesn't have as many angle choice's to sharpen at.

The sharpener also comes with a very nice case the I really like and the latch's work well.

I also made up a 11x11 wooden base and used 5mm Tee Nut's which can be purchased from amazon or aliexpress and I drilled the 4 holes first using the base that comes with the sharpener as a guide I then used a 13/16th spade bit to recess plywood on the back where the Tee Nut's go in,I still need to throw a few coats of Varathane on it to make it easy to clean.

That plywood is bad for splintering but a sanding and a few coats of Varathane will stop the splinters

Here is a link to a dealer in the USA and I also recommend getting an MIP Hex driver in 3mm for the 5mm screws that go into the clamps and base,why an Mip Hex driver it's RC grade and they never deform which means the flat head screw's will last much longer,with button and flat head screws that use a hex driver you'll find the L wrench isn't as hard and in smaller size's the deform easier and then transfer that into the socket of the screw and stripping it over time.

Just go to amazon and type in Mip Hex Driver 3mm and it will show up.
